I've been playing guitar for three years and I want to upgrade from my crappy Ibanez that I got in a beginner's set to a Tele. I've heard good things about some of the guitars under 1000$, which is good, since I can't go over 800$. I was looking at the Highway One, the 60's classic series, the 50's classic series, and the Jim Adkins artist series.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

You will likely need to play a few different models to see which neck profiles seem most comfortable to you. There will be other factors as well, including the style(s) of music you play, but take your time and play around. I'm sure you'll find at least one Tele that works for you.

Oh I forgot to mention. I'd be playing blues, rock, and alternative. Maybe a touch of metal.

We can't tell you what's best. You really have to go and try them and decide what you like.

You can't go wrong with what ever you choose - just as long as you try them first!

Get the most expensive one you can find.

On the serious, I'm tired of all the "which one should I buy" threads that plague this entire forum. Go out into the real world and try out all the stuff you can and figure out what YOU like best!

Sorry, liveatsix. I kind of wanted this to be a thread with info about tone differences and such, not people buying a guitar for me. I understand that I'm the one going to buy it, etc.

Its a legitimate question to which the legitimate answer is "you gotta try them out yourself...we really cant decide that for you".

What may be useful would be people describing the differences between the different models. Sometimes the differences aren't obvious, even when you play them for a few minutes in a guitar store, especially when you are just starting out and arent quite intune with what you need to be paying attention to.

One thing that was helpful to me was to go to youtube and hear some reviews of various instruments. Hearing the difference from someone who knows the difference.

And if you can't really hear the difference, then what does it matter anyway? Then it comes down to feel (neck shape, fret board wood, etc).

I personally dont like the V shape, so that made a big difference when trying out guitars.

You should buy a guitar that makes you feel good when you play it. You know, there are some guitars makes you feel like holding wood.

I should apologize, i didn't mean to be abrasive as my earlier post sounds. I also didn't see that you are new to the forum, so welcome.

If you are looking for a nice Tele under $1000, I reccomend either the Nashville or the Blackout from the Deluxe Series. I have both and love them to death for the "in between sounds" alone. If you are lucky, you can usually find them in the used market for under $500.

Of the models that you've listed, I'd probably go for the 50's Tele.

the Baja gets my vote.

Gets great reviews from all over the place and I think the general belief is that it is the best value in this price range.

No need to apologize liveatsix, I got what you were talking about, and you're probably right. And thanks. :D

I was looking at the Blackout for a while. The idea of a middle pickup is appealing, because I like getting all those "in between sounds" you were talking about, especially since the guitar I have now just has two boring humbuckers.

The only thing I have against the Baja is that it's made in Mexico. Though it sounds kind of paranoid, my guitar teacher warned me against anything from there, but since I'm going for something relatively inexpensive, I think it would be kind of hard to a Mexican tele. If I recall correctly, the Highway One Tele (not the Texas one) is Mexican made.

I, personally, would go with the blonde HWY 1, But that's just me. I don't know much about the others though, so I can't really say for sure.
