I'm thinking of upgrading my stock Squier Tele with Texas Specials. Does anyone have them in their Telecaster and if you do, how do you like them? And do they make a Tele version of the Tex-Mex pickups?

I don't have any experience with Tele Texas Specials but I love 'em in my Lone Star Strat. It took a while to get the tones I wanted but once I rolled off the treble on my amp and my guitar, there they were. Now if I only had SRV's chops. :D

There are Tele Tex-Mex pickups. They're standard on the Deluxe Nashville Telecaster (with a Tex-Mex Strat pickup in the middle position) and on Fender's new Road Worn Series guitars.

My MIJ Vintage 62 Tele Custom Car has Texas Special pups, I fell for this guitar the moment I started playing her. I'm not much on the techie stuff, all I know is I love the sound from this guitar.

Are the Texas Specials overly treblly? I am in need of a bridge pickup for my telecaster.
Anyone know off the top of their head what value the volume pot is on a 2004 model?

I wouldn't say the Texas Special Strat pickups are overly trebly. The neck pickup was a bit brighter than what I was used to... the original pickups on my 1965 Strat. I adjusted and I like the higher output, particularly with the bass on my amp set higher.

My Lone Star has a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Plus at the bridge position so I have no experience with Texas Special bridge pickups on Teles or Strats. I'll bet they sound great, though.

I just put Fender Tele MIA Std pups in my Squier tele, replacing the DDs. It was a very nice upgrade.

I have the Strat Tex Mex pups in my Fender Strat. I love them. I can get this Robin-Trower-meets-John-Mayer tone that is just superb.

Yeah, Fender's Tex-Mex Strat pickups rock. I bought a Jimmy Vaughan Strat this week and it was love as soon as I plugged in to a Blues Deluxe. The "hot" bridge pickup with its own tone control on the JV is very cool. I'm sold.

But since this is the Tele forum, I did own a Deluxe Nashville Tele with Tex-Mex pickups for a while. :) I liked the pickups but the Strat pickup in the middle and 5 way switching made it sound too much like a Strat. It was a very nice guitar but there was this '65 Mustang Reissue I just couldn't resist...

I put the Texas Specials in my 1970 Tele when the originals went bad. I had to do a lot of research because they had 4 wires and my originals had only 3...

It sounds great now...

I just tried out my Squier Strat (newly equipped with Texas Specials) and I'm blown away. I think that some of the money in my "Guitar Modification Fund" is going to be used to buy some Texas Specials for my Squier Telecaster. :D
