I recently saw a guy performing who had replaced his neck pickup with a strat pickup. All of his Teles had this mod and sounded really good. Anyone else out there ever done this? If so, what is involved?

The other day I picked up another Squier to play with. It has a humbucker in the neck and 500k pots. If I decide to make this mod should I replace the pots with 250k?

A Strat pickup won't fit in a Tele's regular neck pickup cavity, unless it comes from factory with a humbucker size cavity there (or you can enlarge the cavity yourself). I believe all the Squiers have the humbucker cavity in the neck position, but I'm not sure what Fenders have it. Anyway, all you have do to is take a look under your Fender's pickguard.

500k is the usually recommended for humbuckers, though I heard of some people using "300K" or something around that, when using a humbucker + single-coil configuration.
