Hi,

Has everyone seen the New For '09 guitars under 'Products'?

There's a pretty sweet looking Road Worn 50's Telecaster in there amongst other things.

I assume these are Mexican made? A cheap alternative to the Custom Shop Relics perhaps?

Anyone have any ideas on pricing?

retail is $1200 guitar center is pre selling them @ $950. I paid half that for my first american tele. 20 years ago i paid 800 for a 66 tele. I wish I had that one back

Yes, the road worn tele looks great, but you could buy a beautiful new MIA tele for about that.

They do look nice but I'd add a couple hundred and get me a MIA Deluxe tele like Snowy's first! 8)

Yep, 1000$ is expensive to me too, but the fact is that you cannot get a vintage-style, 100% lacquered Fender guitar for less than that (and probably you can't get one anywhere else, unless you build your own). I don't care where the guitar is made, and now I don't see much point in the American Vintage series, unless you want the different colors (or somewhat worried about the guys at the Corona factory). Too bad they don't have a Road Unworn Series yet!

Well I guess that would make it around £650-700 here in the UK, which is less than half the price you'd pay for a Custom Shop Relic. Still, I think if I was in the market for a relic I'd have to pay the premium and go for the exclusivity and craftsmanship of a Custom Shop model.

lago; I'm not sure why you don't think there's a market for the American Vintage series now these have been released? I've just purchased a '52RI and wouldn't dream of buying one of these in its place? As far as I'm aware the American Vintage guitars are the only ones made to the original specs - not including custom shop models.

I'm with the majority of the other posts; £700 is too much to pay for a guitar that comes in a gig bag, deluxe or not!

Hi Elvis!

About the Am. Vintage is just my own personal "feeling" and wallet. They are too pricey to me, so I'd go for the more affordable option (as long it is vintage styled...), nothing against the american made ones really! I'm aware they are great guitars. In fact, with a lot patience and luck one could find an used Am. Vintage (but in mint condition, with a case and the c.candy) on eBay for the same price or less than a new Road Worn, what to me seems like a much better deal.

Or I'd get just a couple of used Classic Series for the same price

Hi lago,

I agree, but in my mind the Classic series has always been the cheaper alternative to the American Vintage.

The new Road Worn series seems to be a cheaper alternative to the Custom Shop Relics?

Just depends if you like your guitar with that beaten in look or not, and more importantly - how much you want to spend!

I'm sure that wasn't there when I started this thread! Saying that, it was quite a heavy weekend...
