My girlfriend recently bought me a Vintage Tailpiece w/ brass saddles and a SD Vintage for Tele '54 bridge pup..... just waiting to kill the strings before install. My question though is, Ive seen the same tailpiece but what looked like silver saddles?? what are the differences from the two?? is one style MORE oldschool? also anyone here have the vintage pup in the bridge?

thanks in advance

Cool gifts! Does she have a sister? :D

So, yes, the brass saddles are supposed to be more "vintage" since it was what they used from late 1950 to early 54 I believe. The other material would be steel, that is supposed to be brighter sounding and a little more twangy. The Duncan 54 (STL-1) is a really good pickup as far as I know, very dynamic and also "vintage styled", though I don't know how it would compare to your stock pickups, but you can read more about it in forums and in the Seymour Duncan website itself there's a good amount of info about it and sound samples.

If you're after this kind of vibe, your girlfriend made good choices.

hi telecaster fans! i need your suggestions. i have a 2008 Mexican tele, it has only 21 frets and i'm thinking of bringing it to a luthier for adding 1 more fret. they said that it is possible.

btw, my fretboard is 1 piece maple.

what can you say? do you think that my guitar will lose it's value? is it just a waste of time and money?

thanx so much guys!

i don't mean for this to sound rude, more curious than anything....

why would you want to add a fret? and where?

to be quite honest, i think its a waste of money but kinda cool

Don't do it!!!

Buy an aftermarket 22-frets neck (many options available, Allparts, Mighty Mite, Warmoth, USACG..) and sell your stock guitar neck on eBay, to get the money back. Yes, if you mod it with another neck, it will still loose the resale value.

i would have to disagree more on buying a new neck. thats the cost of a whole new neck for 1 fret??? dude just leave it alone, really it's fine the way it is..... i have U.S Strats and if you took a fret away it wouldn't bother me, and my tele which i recently picked up is just perfect and its MIM.... i couldn't be more proud of the mexican made guitars.

change a pick up or something, a new neck from warmoth will be $160 plus tax and it won't say fender on it. you won't get that kinda money for yours.

good luck

If the guy wants the extra fret, why not letting him have it? Sure he wont make all the money back selling his stock neck, but he will make some of it, what's not so bad.
