Hey, can anybody tell me why when I rub or anchor my finger against the pickguard, why theres a static every time I touch it? It's really getting annoying. I have a Standard Telecaster, but I've even noticed it on my friend's Squier Strat.

Thanks, info would be appreciated.

some of the cheaper guitars will do that because the pickups are not shielded good. a layer of foil tape on the back of the pickguard usually helps. or better pickups.

Put a Bounce Dryer Sheet or similar under the pickguard.

My first course of action was replacing my black Tele pickguard with a white one, but covering the front with black hockey tape. The static is now gone, but now I think I'll place something behind the pickguard instead, like the dryer sheet or foil tape, to boost the looks of the guitar again.

I'll let my friend know also.

Thanks for the help!

I did both with my tele. Went to Home Depot and got aluminum duct tape, covered the under-side of the pick guard with it and cut it out with an exacto knife. then put the dryer sheet under there. now NO more static! :D
