Friday was the day to visit my local Guitar Center to audition Teles. I traded in two Telecasters last month to buy other Fender electrics (Classic Players Jazzmaster & 1965 Mustang Reissue) and my Strat/Tele universe was thrown out of balance. I needed one more Telecaster to even things out.

I played a Highway One, an American Standard and a '72 Deluxe and liked them all. I had just about decided to buy the American Standard when I took one final scan of GC's Fender Room. Hmmm, there was a Fender Special Run, 2 color sunburst, '72 Thinline that I had missed. I played it and it was love at first listen. It just felt right, it was light and I loved the sound of the Thinline's humbuckers. Yep, and I already had the classic Telecaster single coil sound covered with a Baja and a MIM Standard upgraded with SCN pickups. I need this.

Here's a pic of my new best friend.

Wow, congratulations! What a nice find with the 2 color sunburst. I've had my eye on a 3 color sunburst thinline that I'm hoping to take home soon. And be thankful that you got it before the massive price hike Fender's gonna drop on Feb. 1st.

Thanks liveatsix. I liked the FSR 2 color sunburst so much that I didn't notice the two other '72 Thinlines in GC's other Fender area. It was love at first sight. :D

I'm also not a big fan of pearloid pick guards and the Special Run with the plain white guard was $50 cheaper. Yep, I got lucky.

Great looking guitar! I became a Thinline addict after trying one -- very versatile sound (my opinion). I can get anything from near-classic twang to some pretty credible jazz and blues sounds out of it. Not that I'm giving up my standard Tele either, but I can comforably play the Thinline for a long time.

That was the first thing I noticed when I picked up the Thinline... how light and comfortable it was to play. Then I plugged in to a Tweed Blues Junior NOS and the pickups sealed the deal. Want turned into need fast. :D

welcome to the thinline family. I got a 72 Thinline RI a little over a year ago and I love it. A friend of mine came over and checked it out, saying "this is the perfect guitar". That made me happy.
