I just bought a Fender four-position switch on e-bay. It's supposed to retain all of the original Tele pickup configurations but adds an option of having the pickups in series for a humbucker tone. Has this worked for anyone?

Yes, but the 5-pos switch is for a 3-pup configuration, correct? I think the original author was asking about the 4-position switch for a 2-pup Tele. Is this a worthwhile mod?

Does the 4 position switch look like the original 3-position? If so, I like this idea. My wife gave me an American Deluxe Ash telecaster for Christmas. After going back and forth between a '52 reissue and the Deluxe I opted for the larger frets on the Deluxe. However, I don't really like the appearance of the S-1 switch - it doesn't sit flush with the top of the knob so it's pretty obvious that it's not a traditional knob. Seems like a 4-position switch would blend better.

Another option is to mod the 3-way selector switch :

The 4-way switch mod essentially adds a second middle position so you have the choice of running them in series or parallel. The fourth position really adds a beefier sound and I personally love it. It looks just like the 3-way and adds even more versatility. I also through in a phase switch on my custom tele and I love it.

I just recently installed a 4 way switch, treble bleed cap, replaced both pots with 250 k no-load pots and put a humbucker in the neck. I am very glad that I did it. The series sound gives it a nice fat tone. If you do this yourself, you have to mod the neck pick up. There's some info on this page.

Good Luck

You can put a 5 way super switch on a 2 pup Tele.
I know the link says STRAT, but trust me, it's for a tele.
