Hi All,
My first post on here. I am retiring from a 38 career on the road as a driver soon and want to get back into guitar as my hobby. I havent played for over 30 years and want to spoil myself w/a Merle Haggard Tele. Can anyone share some advice/experience on these beautiful machines?
If I can't make it happen I have decided to get a new American Deluxe white w/maple neck.....I tried one and it is so sweet. I have never laid my eyes or fingers on the MH though.
Thanks all,
lindenj

The Merle Haggard Teles are really very beautiful, if you don't mind the gold hardware. However, they are also quite pricey, ~$5,300. If you can afford it, might as well get it. It does seem it will be your own personal reward for a life of long hard miles.

A great sounding, playing and looking axe, IMO.

Check it out in this clip of Merle w/ Redd :

I love Merles sound and Redd is a killer player. Whatever I can afford to buy, I would like to install a Tim Wallis bender setup http://timarastringbenders.com/contact.html......as I have small fingers that would require much exercise to get into serious string bending. Has anyone had an experience w/the stringbenders? I appreciate all your help here guys....as I say its been a long while for me but I really want to bo back into it!
I really like Tim's style and Roy Buchanan.
Tell me more!
Thanks,
Linden Johnson

You know you can't go wrong with that ... wow what a bad "worst case" scenario! :)

Let us know what happens ...

I love Merle and the guitar is a work of art. But ... as one poster has already mentioned ... something to think about very seriously at $5,300. For some perspective, I have a Hwy1, a CIJ 72 Thinline reissue and a MIM 68 Thinline reissue, and all three added up to less than $2,500. The three cover all the sounds I could ever conceive to get and the $2,500+ left over will get you a terrific amp (say a 65 Twin reissue) to boot.

If you're thinking of gigging, then you'd have to consider the security aspects of the guitar as well. To me, it would seem to be a target for a grab and run.

If you have homeowners/renters insurance, you might want to talk to your agent to be sure it's covered. On my policy, no need for a rider or anything like that for guitars that aren't of unusual or high value but they might say a signature guitar well above average price could be covered only by a special rider.

Thanks Roadie,
You are absolutely correct. I have thought about that considerably, especially in the neighbourhood that I'm in. Its not like I have that kinda cash laying around believe me.......I was going to sell my F-150 and buy a life long retirement dream machine the MH tele. Feedback like yours helps me get my brain from spinning outta control.
Greatly appreciated bud. I should just keep my darn computer off .

Hello LindenJ,

Firstly welcome to the forums.
That Merle Haggard edition is a thing of beauty,
if you spend some time you may be able to
shave a couple of grand off that price,
But you'll have to do lots of homework.

I say go get that American Deluxe and
start playing the heck out of it now.
Make the merle knida like you own
personal holy grail {I've got a few}.

Best of luck with your playing.

Cheers.
