I hate these polls. How can we decide for you? :)

Me personally would be a Tele, but thats because I prefer the tone, attack and hate where the volume is placed on a Strat cos my style of play is close to the bridge plus there are a thousand variants of each.

You have to go for what suits you, not anyone else. Hope you have fun trying!

Simply try everything in your price range bro.

Its likely that you will want one of each... toss a coin to see what you buy first.

You have to decide -- play various models of each and over the course of a few weeks. Models have variations and moods change. Also, be sure to try examples of amps you might be considering and again in different environments and at different times.

Ideally, check out prospects in a relatively quiet room and spend some time with each. But try them in a louder environment as well - might more imitate the noise level at a gig. Hold them, look at them, etc. and eventually the right one will be there.

Finally, you might want to try options other than just a Strat and Tele. Check out a Mustang or two, etc. just to get a feel for the other options you have.

You may even want to try a few used ones if you have some resource like Craigslist in your area.

Finally, keep in mind that guitars as they sit in stores may not be very well set up. If you find one where you really love the sound but say the strings are just a bit high, that may not be a deal breaker. You can have it set up and they should work with you on the end result. Possibly you can even get the store to toss in setup as part of the deal.
