It's good to know that I'm not alone. I never thought my Strat would end up in the case for this long. I just can't put the damn telecaster down. This guitar makes me feel like I can't miss a note!
I knew I made the right choice last weekend when I used it for the first time at the jam session. I play rhythm most of the time and the lead jazz player 'forgets  ' to turn down when we switch for my solos. On occasion, I would have trouble cutting through with my strat, but this Tele slices through the mix without a problem. I just love the way this thing 'Barks' when you spank it  !

I have an hecho-en-Mexico Telecaster that gets equal billing to my MIA 1962RI Stratocaster and my 1980 G&L F-100...

...each of them have their own vibe, tone, neck profile, feel, etc. I play "differently" on the Telecaster than the G&L or the Strat--but I play "differently" on the Strat than the other two as well, so each of them "make" me play to the individual axe's personality and feel.

I'm also inspired to write songs differently on the individual guitars, just due to their feel and vibe more than anything. Sometimes, when song isn't clicking right, I'll change guitars and try to refine or even rewrite the music--the results are sometimes shocking. I'll do the same thing in the studio--change guitars or borrow the drummer's guitar to see if I play it differently.

I've talked to other guitarists and this phenomenon is not unheard-of; they agreed that some guitars just "fit" a song or playing-style more than others...and not just tone-wise--they understood the "feel" dynamic of how you approach the song.

This is also why I was not seduced by the VG Strat or the Line 6 Variax--same neck, body, etc. but a bunch of (IMHO) poorly modeled "processed" tone variations.

Having said that, I'm not one of those environmental control freaks like Eric Johnson. I have played gigs on just a single one of these guitars (re-tuning for various open tunings, etc.) or even a borrowed guitar and not had a fear that things wouldn't work out--it just changes some of the dynamics.
