Hi:

A month or so I wrote about one of our gigs where I had a guy at our open mic night absolutely bag and put down my 1994 MIM Telecaster, because he said it wasn't a "Real Fender"

The man in question plays a 2006 American Tele Deluxe.

Well we went back to this club last week and this Jerk was there again. In our band I play guitar and bass, I took 4 instruments with me 1994 MIM Tele, 1996 MIM Jazz Bass (Fretless) 2004 Squier 51, 2008 CP Jazzmaster.
Now 3 out of 4 were MIM guitars.

After the first set he came up and said (I will not repeat his racial slur for a MIM Guitar) see you're still banging away on that Cheap Tele.

I didn't say much to him the first time I thought he would go away, he didn't and his comments were getting worse.

I said "You know, you're the same Horse's-Ass you were last time" he looked at me very stunned, I said I don't want your opinion, I don't want to hear anything from you, you will not be stepping on that stage when our band is here.
This guy is not much of a player or vocalist, I never put anyone down because of their playing, BUT this time I made an exception.

I quoted Simon from American Idol, I said, I'm not trying to be rude, but you can't play, sing or do that much other than to use racial slurs about other peoples equipment, and you are not stepping on that stage when our band is here.

This guy runs up to the club owner like a little kid and tells him we will not let him play, the club owner comes over to tell me this jerk is upset because we won't let him play, I said he was the one following me all over to tell me how good he was and I had "Crap" equipment, Sorry if he's going to play we will pack up and leave after getting paid.

The club owner backed me and told this guy he needed to mellow his additude out and not to come to the open mic nights when we were the featured band.

He left in a huff and I had a number of musicians thank me for getting rid of him

I have been in bands for over 28 years and people like that just amaze me at how arrogant they are

Hopefully this is the last time I will have to deal with him

Guido: you did good. A lot of guys I know would have solved the problem, but a large part of the soloutions would have involved an a** whipping.

Seriously, cause I don't know if I would have handled myself as collected as you did, cause if it was me and him, there would be a good chance one would be in jail and the other in the hospital cause I have a low tolerance for ignorance and racism.

Dude, Thank You! People like that always seem to get "ME" thrown in jail. (something about "overreacting" or some such nonesense.) I am very lucky in that I own and have owned many very nice guitars over the "too many years to admit to" that I"ve been playing. But I have to subscribe to the "IT AIN"T THE GUN IT'S THE SHOOTER" school of thought. It ain't what you play but what you do with your playing that counts. You take any good guitar player and they will make what ever they play sound good.
There was a time when Santana was playin' Yamaha's, Or what about Jimmy Pages Silvertone. Talk about a cheap guitar!!!
ANY WAY...Thanks Again.

Nicely done Dude. Sometimes you just have to shut idiots down.

I sing the praises of my MIA guitars, but there ain't anything wrong with the MIM's. They look and play great.
I do think that the '51 is as ugly as "homemade sin", but that's just a personal taste thing. I've heard them played and they sound good.

Yeah, idiots like that try to compensate for their lack of talent by buying the most expensive stuff so they can crow about it to everyone. Those types just don't get it. I love my MIM Fenders. Sure, eventually I will get an MIA, but having had a high buck guitar stolen at a gig before, I am reluctant to buy a high buck guitar to gig with!!!

Great stuff,
What I've found is that the guys who are worrying too much about whether their axe is MIA, MIM, MIK or slapped together in the backyard are trying to compensate for their shortcomings as musicians or basically have lots of money and no talent.
None of that crap makes that much real difference. It always comes down to whether or not you can play.
Any decent guitar that stays in tune can sound good in the hands of someone who can play especially any Fender guitar no matter where it's made. I've even been impressed/ surprised with some of the cheap squiers. I own a Squire Esprit and a 51 along with a MIM tele and Strat. I'd put either one of my MIM's up against an MIA any day. Beautiful guitars that play like butter and sound awesome.

Or... you can always go by this statement. MIM by Mexicans or Made in USA by Mexicans. Build quality is probably the same.

Good job of being the better man. What was he thinking? He's gonna trash the band that's up there backing the open Mic! I would have beat him down!!

You handled that well I must say. Some people just feel a need to run there mouths about themselfs and down others. Last dude that pushed my buttons to far got himself tossed through a plate window of the local Burger King. He found out you never get smart mouth with a man's wife even when you have 4 friends with you some of us can handle that. The funny part is the Cops just laughed and tell his buds to figure they learned a lesson not to mess with some while he was heading down the road in the bus

Dude,

you handled yourself with class. There's always something about blowhards that just make it so hard to deal with. It's like they've never learned how to interact with society in a manner that wasn't confrontational or condenscending.
