Has anyone else had issues with there jim root tele, mainly the finish?
i waited 7 months for my jim root tele in white, i've had it since april 08, and to say im less than impressed would be an understatement!!

the set up was total rubbish! and after only six months of playing the flat black hardwear is starting to come off and show the chrome underneath.

come on fender you take our hard earnt cash then make us wait, at least make the wait worth it! and the get the produce right first time.

Firstly, I agree that guitar hardware, particularly on non-budget guitars should be more hard wearing.

I liken it to the fact that ALL sportsbike manufacturers refuse to make the fastners and screws and even silencers in some cases on even top of the line superbikes corrosion resistant. Particularly a problem in the UK where the amount of salt and junk they put on the roads in Winter is a joke.

Thats a bit off-topic. But I would warn you.... EVERY GUITAR I HAVE OWNED WITH COLOURED PLATING ON THE HARWARE HAS SEEN IT WORN OFF.
I'm not shouting to be mean to you at all. Just making a strong point so that you dont get too angry at your guitar and fall out of love with it (I have done the same with axes in the past for this reason). Its pretty normal.

Seriously.....I have many superstrats with "Cosmo" or "Black Nickel" or "Black Chrome" hardware. It ALWAYS comes off eventually, whether it be bridge, saddles, pickup covers. And on areas of lighter wear like knobs, it tarnishes anyway. And I REALLY look after them. Wipe them down gently with a microfibre after each session etc. Wash my hands a bit before playing.

I have had this happen on Mavericks, ESPs, Ibanez (Prestiges) etc. Now this was on a £1000 Ibanez Prestige, but there is no avoiding it.
The gold comes off Ibanez Jem bridges. Just as it will come off the bridge on the gorgeously purple Herman Li signature.
My PRS stop-tail bridge is a bit pitted and discoloured and that was just chrome coloured. No fancy plating! Pickup covers not looking great either.

I dont know why they dont either finish it with a big thick lump of decent paint, or leave it chrome to begin with and leave it up to us to keep it clean. PLating looks good in the showroom and in the brochure but it sucks.

Looking at the JR Tele, I'm assuming it is flat black, rather than chrome black? Dont worry. That always comes off too. Happened on a very expensive Jackson in the early 90's which upset me. That was matte black on the harware too. Laster about 2 months on the Floyd bridge saddles before they went shiny, black, then about a week before the metal was showing. (I palm mute a lot!)

The moral of the story? I think you, like me, would happily have paid an extra $10 for your guitar for them to put some harder wearing paint on the hardware?

Unfortunately all manufacturers in the US, Japan, Korea, China etc are oblivious to this. I had a spell of avoiding guitars with this hardware coloring, but after a while realised I was limiting my choices.

I just bought an RG2550Z Ibanez Prestige. Nice neck, ok pickups, great Edge Zero rock solid bridge. 2 months and the saddles are worn. And last week I tripped at home and hit the body into the tuning peg of a Maverick taking a chunk of the gorgeous galaxy black paint off the top horn. ARRGGGHH.

But you know what? I plays the same. It sounds the same. Thats the the only way to look at it I'm afraid. Dont let it put you off. And dont get too hung up about calling the store or writing to Fender about it. You will just get more and more angry with your axe and play it less and less. If it sounds good and stays in tune, just strap it on and play it. You will soon forget the harware. Promise

Good luck.

Well it is Made in Mexico so what did you really expect?

Seriously that's too bad. I'd thought about picking one up. Now I think I'll just make my own out of Warmoth parts.

Nope, no shobbery I'm just poking fun cuz I know it riles people up.

I do personally think that the MIA's are "nicer" (better fit and finish though not by much, better hardware, better electronics).
I have no issue with the MIM's at all

Yeah, I hear ya. Yes, one would expect some sort of "upgrade" in an MIA guitar, it would only be right.

I wish I could find an MIM Strat, Tele with the deeply colored maple neck though. both of mine have the really light fretboard. That is one feature I really envy on the MIAs.

something has to justify the jump in price. Though the Jim Root Tele ain't inexpensive that's for sure.

I think the black nickel holds up better the the black chrome on hardware.
