I've got a brand new 08 MIA Standard. I like it but everytime I pick it up after playing my Strat I always think it's a little week/thin. I play it through my Super Champ XD. Now I know the SCXD not the greatest amp but it's a good amp. Besides I like my Strat through it. It's not that the Tele sounds bad I just think it's lacking. Anybody else out there feel the same way? Maybe I'm just a Strat guy.

Nope. I guess you're a strat guy.

In context, yes ... but that's why I love the Tele sound. To illustrate, a coworker recently went looking to buy his first Tele after trying one of mine. He's a LP guy from day 1 and also pretty much always playing through high power amps and typically with massive distortion. So when he tried a Tele through a small amp, naturally he thought the sound was very thin and far on the treble side.

This isn't to say that you can't get lots of crunch out of a Tele but only that it isn't the natural sound.

I too have an 08 Am. standard. I understand what you're talking about. It took me awhile to find the sweet spot. If you can't find it, you may want to consider changing the pickups.

I've got a tele with a humbucker in the neck and I absolutely love it. It's got much more warmth, but still has that tele twang. At a show recently, the lead guitar player had strat neck pickups in his teles. They sounded good.

Good luck.

Other way for me.

I unplug my Strat and plug in my 72 custom (same amp settings) and it blows me accross the room.

Mine sounded fine, but I'm a pickup freak so I upgraded to Seymour Duncan quarter pounders. Now it absolutely howls

I play my MIM Telecaster through a SCXD too and mine definately does not sound thin. You need to play around with the different amp models and choose one that suits your guitar. I play a lot of songs on my Tele that I used to use my Ovation electric/acoustic simply because you can make it sound very sweet. On the second channel, I can make that thing sound raunchy too. The best of both worlds.

If by thin you mean twangy, that's just the nature of the beast. It really depends on the music you play whether a Strat or Tele is best for you. Teles have a strong rep in both country and rock music. I had a American Deluxe Tele that I really liked. But I'm more of a Strat tone and feel kind of guy and I traded it for a Strat. I don't want to have more than a couple of good guitar to have to maintain, but I suspect that I'll own another Tele one day when I come across a good deal. It just works best for some songs, like early Zeppelin and Stones stuff.

Nope, all my Teles sound fat and strong. Just cause the strat and tele both have single coils, doesn't mean they'll sound anything like each other. The Tele bridge PU usually has some type of metal plate underneath it to give it some twang. Also, different guitars may need slightly different settings on amp and effects, so I think the weak and thin sound you are experiencing could be from something other than the guitar...

I've only ever heard a tele neck pickup sound thin. The bridge is usualy great. A decent tele will give any gibbo a run for their money.

Little (mostly pickups) or no difference here but some Tele circuits
have a bleeder cap or a similar circuit add in that can thin the sound when
the volume is turned down some. If you have 2 capacitors in your
circuit one is very likely a bleeder. It can be removed.
Otherwise check your pickup heights to factory settings and
try turning up the midrange and bass more on the amp.

Generally the bridge pickup on a Tele is louder than a Strat one
at factory set heights and the neck pickups opposite that but
also depends on what pickups are in each.

Strats are a delight, but you can get away with a little slop. Teles tell no lies!

Haha, a very accurate statement.

It's odd that you should say that. I've always found my Tele to be much more "forgiving" than my Strat. maybe it's different for different people.
