What strings do you seasoned Telecaster players prefer? Is it solely based on what music you like to play?

I have tried many different types, but I keep coming back to the Fender Super 250's. It doesnt seem to matter what type of music I play.

I've been playing D'Addario strings for about 20 years, and using the EXL115s (11-49) for about the past 12 years...I just like the way they feel, sound, and their durability...Plus you can get D'Addarios in 10-packs so the price per set is usually cheaper, but even if they didn't sell 10-packs, I'd still be using them...

I use Ernie Ball 0.10s on all my electrics. Lately I've been thinking about trying 0.11s.

I would also like to try a set of flat wounds. Anybody here tried flat wounds on a tele before?

I've tried everything under the sun and I always come back to D'Addario. There is always something that I don't like about strings from other brands. Some are too stretchy, too flimsy, or just feel awkward.

For me, that Tele "twang" is the one of the biggest reasons to play a Tele. And to get that sound, the nickel winding on Fender 150s and 250s seems to really bring it out.

@ ITL15

Flatwounds have less sustain and a more "mellow" sound. Think of jazz guitar. I string my ES-345 with them. You get almost no scraping sound when you move up and down the string. Great for some music, but they never go on my fenders. I like the "strong" attack and good sustain of round wound strings. I think strats and teles should have a little "snap" in my opinion.

I like GHS Boomers. They seem to last a good while and sound great. Not sure if they are more or less expensive then other strings. They sound and feel right to me. I buy 10 packs like bowlfreshener. Have to keep'em fresh.

I like the sound and feel of DR Pure Blues, but they don't last -- the winding frays at each fret. I had a set of Elixirs and liked those a lot, but I'm using ClearTones right now to check them out. So far so good. Anxious to hear other opinions!

I too use DR Pure Blues strings but I have never noticed them fraying or unwinding at the frets. After I read that post I wnet and looked at the 3 guitars that have those installed. One set is about two weeks old, one has bee on several months and one set was installed about a year ago. the newest set hs the most hours on them, and I did not see any defect, but this is something I will keep an eye on.

Would anyone know any information on how good a thinline holds up with detuning like to drop d or c# or even c? Also, would it be able to handle thicker strings like Ernie ball Beefies or not even slinkies? Thanks!

I use DR Pure Blues 9 - 42. Love the sound and haven't had any issues with them. I change my strings about every 40 - 50 hours of playing. I play a Deluxe Blackout. We play mainly Christian with some classic rock and some blues.
