Hi good people. Here's my first post to the Fender Tele World.

I have a very fine 1993 MIJ Tele which despite being well 'loved' still plays like a dream.

I recently saw another instrument which caught my eye and I have now bought. I expect fakes to be of the newer more standard-looking instruments and because anything goes in the world of MIJ Tele's I figured the wierder the instrument the more likely to be the genuine article. This is wierd looking. Black with black headstock and gold equipment.

Temptation got the better of me but there are a couple of points which make me suspicious. If any of you fine people have an expert opinion to give then I'd be most grateful. Also does anyone know if is there anyone I can contact at Fender Japan who will check individual serial numbers against their records??? That would be most ace.

So here's the description:

-------
Colour: Black with golden hardware.

Body: Black with black pick guard with white edging. The back has a gold, square neck plate with no serial number and the letter 'F' only in Fender(R) script-style. The bridge has three (not six) saddles.

Neck: Rosewood fretboard otherwise black with black headstock. 21 frets.

Serial Number: On headstock in white lettering only as: "Fender(R) Telecaster(R)" with "Made in Japan" under the "Telecaster" and the serial number as: "Serial Number H026575" under the "Fender". The '2' and '6' are not perfectly aligned with the other digits. - The headstock makes me suspicious.

Pegs: Gold with the only lettering being "Made in Japan" stamped on each peg around the flat circle of the barrel at the back - This makes me suspicious too.

Weight: Total weight is 7.5 pounds.
-------

Many thanks to all.

It doesn't make sense to counterfeit an MIJ guitar. There's no money in it.

Thanks AjayTele, what a star! That looks like it's right on the money. I've subsequently found a few ads in Japan with the same model nos. and similar pics.
I'm not much of a master of Japanese so I may be missing some hints in the text but to match the dates, do you know if your paperwork comes from the late eighties? It's meant to be an 1988/1989
All the best and thanks to eveyone else who has shown an interest,
