Hi,
I was one of the lucky ones who won a tanqueray Strat. I do not know how many were produced but they gave away 100 to second place winners.
First prize was a trip to England to an event with Prince Charles. Third place was a mirror in the shape of a strat. 1000 were given away.
This guitar was made just after the just after CBS sold the company to the current Fender. The CBS years 65-85 were less desirable to musicians at that time.
The Tanqueray guitar was an attempt to regain their popularity and they did a good job. I don't know if it is true, but mine appears to have an ebony fretboard. There was no information with my guitar not even a case. It came in a cardboard box. I had to buy a vibrato handle.
I played this guitar for years with my band in Chicago and it is very nice.
If you have one it is now a collectable treasure.

Thanks for the reply Mr Bill!

I am new to this guitar thing. I took up playing about a year ago at 56 years of age and I am enjoying it very much. I am contemplating retirement soon and golf is just not doing it for me.

I got myself a 2006 Gibson Les Paul Studio "Swampash" when I first started and just love playing albeit in my limited fashion. I imagine I will get to like it more when I graduate from doing all this scale stuff!! My next step was an accoustic and so I picked up an Ovation Koa guitar and that too is fun, an intersting design that brand.

I had to have a Fender and recently picked up one of those "Tanqueray Tonic" Strats from 1988. Ya gotta like green! This guitar thing can get addictive ...my wife is worried!

Below is another link to about the 4th one of these I have found since I started my quest.

Off to guitar class now and again thanks for the greeting!
