Hello everyone,

Just after a bit of advice in terms of quality, desirability and investment.

Which would you say is the better guitar; an American Vintage '52 Telecaster RI or a Custom Shop '51 Nocaster Relic? I've been offered both guitars brand new at what I believe to be excellent prices, although I suspect one is a better deal than the other.

What it comes down to is this:

Is the Custom Shop '51 Nocaster worth £500 (around $775) more than the '52 RI?

How do they compare in terms of build quality?

Which is going to retain most of it's value, or even increase in value, over the years?

Any insight from owners of either guitar, or anyone else for that matter, would be most grateful.

Both amazing guitars, I know; which is probably why I've been finding it so difficult to decide! I'm pretty sure I won't know if I've made the right decision until my wallet gets ever so slightly lighter!

Photos are always welcome too by the way!

Thanks in advance!

It really depends on what the player (you) likes. Do you know the history of the Nocaster....read on...

I'd go for the Nocaster, but it's your decision.

Your generaly going to get better quality on the customshop, but really it comes down to which you prefer. If the customshop doesnt look right your never going to be completely happy with it.

Harker and howerth in bolton haven't got a sale on have they? thats a great shop i got my 57hotrod from there.

Thanks, I knew a bit about the history but I'm still fairly new to the world of Fender.

The problem is I like them both! I love the worn in relic finish and tarnished hardware on the Nocaster. I also love the contrast between the gloss buterscotch paint, the black guard and polished chrome on the '52.

I've never heard of that shop in Bolton before. I'll have to look it up in the morning.

Hello Jumpsuitelvis,

My choice would be the '52 tele,
I play em with regularity and I think
they're a nice guitar I'm torn between
the '52 and the GE Smith.

Valuewise I also believe the '52
will be more solid in the future.

My thoughts.

Cheers.

Right, decision made. I've decided on the '52 RI. I'm not exactly sure why, but that's my final decision! The shop's closed now though so I've got around 15 hours to change my mind again...

I looked up Harker & Howarth in Bolton; I didn't realise it's part of the Rimmers group. I was in the Leyland Rimmers store on Sunday trying a few guitars out. That's where I decided the American Deluxe wasn't for me and I needed to go old school!
