This picture gives me a funny feeling in my underpants, and I would love to put a bigsby on my 72 custom.

Image

The B5 Tele unit costs over £100, and I'll need to drill 2 big holes in the body.....Ouch!

Also It looks like the neck has not been shimmed on this one, and the guy in this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN2MLRbIC5M
Doesn't fit a shim either. I thought you would really need to?

72 Teles have a MicroTilt thingy - is this enough for a bit of neck tilt if required?

Has anyone had any exprerience with this mod?

Any advice?

Cheers Tele twangers!

Does the unit come with a new bridge plate/bridge assembly?

Springsteen was on VH1 last week from Barcelona and he used a black and burst one with Bigsbys, along with several other Teles.

Here's the burst :

If you don't want to drill the giant holes into the wood (and I am NOT a big fan of the JM bridge assembly), you can modify a vintage style bridge plate. I like this setup for a bigsby much better. I've had it on my Thinline for about 13 years with no problems

Yeah - I've seen a good few like that here..
http://www.xs4all.nl/~msengers/htm/gallery.htm

It's a good solution, and saves a bit of money too.

Trev Wilkinson makes a tele bridge with string holes drilled in the back for Squier style top loading. I wonder if that would work?

I really like the way that the scratch plate cut out on the 72 Custom (designed to accommodate an ash tray cover) is a perfect fit for the B5 flat bridge plate. very aesthetically pleasing!

Hmmmm

I dont think your going to be able to run the strings from the bigsby through the bridge holes then over the saddles. The strings will constantly rub on the top of the holes and keep breaking. I do however think you could cut the metal off the top section of the holes and even widen them aswell, so the string can pass through easily.

Yeah, I reckon you're right...

Incidently Mr Ninja, my Wilkinson compensated saddels arrived a couple of days ago.
Sadly my wife has hidden them and insisted that I can have them for Xmas. I might try and sell her on the internet.

You'll like the compensated Tele Saddles.

I use a set of these el-cheap-o saddles:

Stew-Mac Saddles

They work just fine and look very vintage.

Shebay?

To get your revenge just be ignorant over christmas and completely focus on your tele

When she moans, all you have to do to get out of any trouble is say 'you got me such a great present. cant you hear the tonal difference between how it was and how it is? It sounds like a 3million pound guitar now'.
