After sending the first one back, went to a GC and got one, the frets needed some work but not too bad, and the neck was deatly white, but with some work, some shoe polish, and a black guard she is a keeper!

Spose I'll do a little review now that I've had it a couple days. The first one that was sent back due to the huge neck gap was light as a feather, and its sound was a little on the thin side, "plinky" would best describe it ,it had loads of twang, but was missing that tele snarl when you dig in good. The one I have now wheighs a ton, it in fact the heaviest guitar I own, considerably heavier than my LP. Such inconsitencies are pretty common with ash. The upside is TONE, no plink what so ever and it has that snarl in spades, it also has immense sustain. Strike a chord and you feel it in the entire guitar, the body just sings. Coupled with the very good stock electronic, tex-mex alnico v pickups and its fast becoming my main axe.

Out of the box its a disappointemet, and quality control is awful, mine had bad frets, none of the edges were filed down, so you really couldnt even play it very much, the neck was gastly white, the screw hole for the upper bout wasnt even drilled, but everything else was good, the neck was solid, the body was a beaut and the electronics were sound. So after taking it completely apart, doing the fret work, giving it a tan, drilling the appropriate holes, and slapping it back together, I'm pleased.

With careful selection and ability/drive to finish what the mex plant didnt, it can be a great axe at a great price. I'm still on the honeymoon, but I believe she is a long haul keeper.

I have never done the shoe polish thing but I have seen a neck were the guy said that he made it look as it did with Kiwi Brown shoe polish. It had a yellowish brown look to it. He said it to two coats rubbed on then off to get the look. I think I would just stick with the Fender Neck Amber I think that works good.
