Not that I ever left them on, but for cosmetic appeal in pics.

I like them. I have toyed with the idea of getting one just for kicks. The look great on vintage guitars and i guess they were functional to keep your hands off the bridge or tremolo? Maybe when I get a replacement Tele for the one I sold many years ago. :)

Hello Miami Mike,

I like those bridge covers too, ya know
but for the life of me I've never seen
anybody using one while performing.
I wonder if there is any tonal differance.

Cheers.

Good question, and I don't know the answer. :? Maybe someone who still has one will chime in? :?:

I bought one and snapped it on because I think they look nice. Then I tried playing with it on . . Darned thing makes palm muting near impossible amd it tended to get in the way of my right hand. Maybe if your do it enough you get used to it.

That's why everyone took them off! I bought them for a couple of my Strats. Always thought the old Fender Basses looked great with all of the chrome. I bought a bridge cover for my Q-series Jazzmaster, too.

I have one and never use it. I just think a tele looks better naked. Without you can play right over the bridge pup. Much more functional without.

I think those bridge cover are good and have a different tone.
As you all know, there is a pickup undernieth there and that cover keeps all of the string vibrations from escaping there fore the pickup "picks up" more of the sound.

Am i correct on this???

My understanding is that in the early days, the intent was to control some of the hum. It shielded the pup from your hands. But so I gather, at some point technology had advanced so that the ashtray no longer did any real good.

I have to admit, they do look cool, especially to a "retro" person such as myself. However, it's been probably 40 years since I actually played anything (and that was a bass) with an ashtray in place. I don't remember anymore if it changed the sound or not. You'd think it would have a least a small influence, as a large chunk of metal.
