Hello Folks....I have an early 80's Telecaster purchased new from the MUSIC EMPORIUM in Rockville, MD. The serial numbers on the headstock were removed by a thief, when the NOPD recovered the item for me! Is there anywhere else that the serial number may be found on this tele? It's not on the neck plate....but I've heard it may be on underside the neck itself. I would hate to remove the neck, if it isn't there....This old tele makes such piercing harmonics and chicken clucks, it'll make you look around for eggs. I think it's a 52 reissue because it has a brass nut and brass bridge saddles from new. Under the black finish, there seems to be a bright glossy red, showing through the scratches and nicks from the 28 years of faithful service from this mystery telecaster Thanks so much, Tom [/url][/b]

No. There's usually only on the one place, neck plate or headstock, unless you wrote it somewhere else, like under the pickguard and/or in some body cavity.

Some of the Teles have the number on the Bridge plate such as the 52 reissue. some of the Japan teles have the serial number on the bridge plate also. There are lots of good books on tele identification out there. I personally have a Library of Guitar ID books I have bought through the years

Thank you Ingbrder, There are 2 series of numbers on the bridge plate: D E S 164227 and also 2.573.254 Also "made in U.S.A." in small print under the Telecaster decal on the headstock, next to where the serial number was scratched off. I played this guitar for 3 years {81-83} in the local New Orleans club arena, it was stolen, then recovered by NOPD..it spent the next 25 years mostly in its case, only coming out occasionally. Now that I am teaching 2 of my grandsons how to jam ...this old Telecaster is now BACK IN BUSINESS! And WOW what a sound! Hey, ALSO, I found initials on the underside of the bridge "TY" and under the foil insulated 3 ply black pickguard there is many various initials, too, as well as under the pot plate. I really don't want to remove the neck..but I might , just to get the actual build date. Man, I sure appreciate the wonderful hospitality of the members of this forum...you guys are like a big HAPPY family!! Thanks so much, Tom

Those are Patent Numbers stamped on the Bridge Plate. That was done Between 1962 and 1982 . Is the Decal A Spagetti Logo ? or Transition, CBS or Modern Silver ...

Hi Ingbrder....the Fender logo headstock decal is a thin black letter script with a gold outline. I would guess traditional or spagetti.....{more of a vermicelli}.....My grandson, Drew, just got his first electric today, a black Squire Strat with a white pickguard {humbucker bridge pick-up} we stopped in the middle of this to do a improv version of "Hey Joe" But, getting back to the logo.....I know it aint silver, and it probably isn't CBS either. I guess I will have to remove the neck to get an idea of how old this Tele really is. What throws me off is that it came new with a brass upper nut. Thanks ever so much, Tom
