I already mentioned Jimmy Bryant, but for living players, I give a nod to Jerry Donahue or any of the Hellecasters.

It's Roy Buchanan for me, and Rory Gallagher with his slide Tele, not the best but who cares it was wicked.

Some great players have been mentioned such as Roy Buchannon (sp), Vince Gill, Brent Mason, Jimmy Bryant, Don Rich, etc. But there are two that haven't been mentioned and they probably can play as well or better than anyone mentioned so far. Albert Lee and Scotty Anderson. I know Scotty has some stuff that has been posted on YouTube. Albert played in EmmyLou's Hot Band for many years. I would give these two the edge along with John Juergenson from the Desert Rose Band and from his solo career which focuses more on gypsy jazz guitar. But there certainly have been many great players. Another really good one is Doug Seven who puts out a lot of instructional videos. If I had to pick one it would probably be Scotty Anderson though. He does stuff that I've never seen or heard from others.

Jimmy Page; amazing tones from a Tele on Led Zeppelin 1. Stairway to Heaven lead was a Tele too.
