I guess it's only fitting that my absolute first post is to proclaim Keith Richards as the best Tele player. Though of late he's fancied a Gibson ES-335, he's the reason I picked a Tele over a Strat when I started out, and the reason I'll never get rid of my Tele. After him, I'd have to say Tom Morello, simply because he uses it in a way its never really been used before.

After Roy Buchanan, who was to me THE Telecaster player - Bill Kirchen is an awesome guitarist. Bill was the lead guitar player for the Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airman. They were the quintessential stoned hippie cowboy truck - driving band in the 70's. They combined blues, country & western, pop and rock into a unique sound with some comedy thrown in for good measure. To pull this off they were all outstanding musicians. I saw Bill Kirchen on April 11 at a little club in Teaneck, NJ that holds about 150 people. He put on some display - he pulled out all the stops and really showed what a Tele could do. He was doing his fast bass runs ala diesel-billy rock, beautiful melodic playing on several Bob Dylan songs, heavy blues and some nice country picking. For a musician that was " lost in the ozone " on more than one occasion and now in his 60's - he is still FANTASTIC !!!!! If you get the chance DON'T MISS HIM !!!!!!!!!

Bill is a great player... along with his sidemen (Too Much Fun?) they really get rockin'! I'll probably take some heat for this but I think there some artists who just happen to play a Tele and then there are guys like Bill (and Roy and Danny RIP) who really put a Tele through its paces and play it like only a Tele can be played! The twang and bends, volume and tone swells and all the little tricks are what make Tele's such great guitars!

Favorite Tele man? My user name gives it away...

James Burton

After that there are so many greats. But my sentimental favorites are Albert Lee (from when he played Fenders) and Gatton.

Also, the guy I think is the hottest right now is Brent Mason. Check him out if you aren't familiar with the most used man in Nashville.

Oh, and reading some other posts here I'm reminded of Don Rich and Ray Flacke. Such great country styling from these two.

Hmmm...
Brad Paisley knows his way around a Tele
Jimmy Page played one of the best guitar solo's ever recorded on a Tele
Of course this is in my own humble opinion :D
