After being a Gibson nut for so long I finally decided that I want a Tele, but there are so many different models to choose from and I can't decide. I'm going to GC since it's the closest Fender dealer in my area. My budget is about $1,200. I was thinking about either a Highway One or American Deluxe. Thanks in advance for any ideas/input :)

I have a Hwy 1 and love it, but if I could have afforded it at the time I would have bought the American Deluxe. They are great. If you can get the American Deluxe, you might as well. You'll like either one of them though.

That's easy!

Get a new 2008 American Standard with an Ash body. They are really great Teles. :D

You should even have some money left over as well...

I've got an American Tele Deluxe 08, it's a fine guitar. You wouldn't be in the least bit disappointed, plays like a dream.

Another happy Deluxe Tele owner here! I got mine a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't be happier with it. Ash, butterscotch blonde, '52 neck, I love everything about it. The Standards are great too, but I'm a big fan of the SCNs in a Tele, not just because they are quiet, but they sound great too. The added plus of the S-1 switch just opens up another tonal opportunity. Happy shopping. Oh ya, I got mine used and saved about $400, it was hardly played and in perfect condition.

I suggest go out and playing as many different Teles as possible, because there are so many variations and choices to choose from. Plus they are kind of like Gibsons at times because not all Les Pauls feel or sound alike at times, so its probably best to try as many as possible and get the one you can't put down

I recommend an American Standard or American Deluxe. If you can get a Deluxe, go for it. lol That's the best of the best.

I just went through the exact same thing. You have to sit down and play them both and go with what feels right to you. I ended up choosing the the Deluxe - it's the same as what Snowy has ...

I own an '04 Highway One Texas Tele and it's great. The Deluxe Teles are hella fancy and I like the way they look.

Either way, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH MIA!

Well, I wound up getting an American Deluxe in vintage burst w/maple board.
So far I'm really enjoying this guitar, and I'm actually shocked at the excellent build quality. Are the HGWY 1 Teles this nice?

You know, a deluxe wouldn't be bad, but why exclude the Am. standard?

The body did not feel as "nice" to me personally - the finish is different and it doesn't have that beveled cutaway on the top edge that the deluxe has (the part of the body the rests against your ribs).

The Highway Ones have the old school nitro finish which isn't as shiny as the newer poly based finishes and it's easier to ding (aka relic) So if you want it to stay perfect over time, they may not be for you. The build quality on the Highway Ones in my experience is what you'd expect from an MIA Fender . . . it's great. That being said, I haven't met a guitar yet that didn't benefit from a dedicated pro set up. I think "bang for the buck" the Highway Ones are the best deal out there.

No, despite what the Hwy1 lovers say.

The American Deluxes are the best made Fenders, short of buying a Custom Shop.

All the upgrades on the Delux are subtle (if shiny) and nice. It's a cooler guitar and the neck is the best I've ever played. I'd go Delux. (Again)

Love,
Todd
