Decades ago I sold the neck and the pickups from my lefthanded tele from the mid sixties....luckily I recorded the serial #, however, without the neck (where the date information is located) how can I prove to a buyer it is a 60's telecaster? It has been repainted (by me) twice, but the original blond finish is still beneath the newer paints. Am I out of luck?

Everything I have read shows the serial number on a 60's Telecaster being on the neck plate. There were teh early 60's five digit numbers, the 60's L-numbers, the square 4 bolt 60's series "F" plates and the three bol F series. In 1976 Fender stopped stamping the number on the neck plate. Only then did the serial numbers move to the neck.

Perhaps pics of the serial number, and a link to a serial number decoder...
