never have seen one before, it looks a bit awkward... i'd imagine it would play similarly to a les paul with the two humbuckers... it probably wouldn't have that distinct tele sound with the two buckers, but i may be wrong

Actually, I have played one of these a few times. The tone control is a coil splitter, so you have both options of playing the humbuckers or the single coils. You can get some warm sounds from the humbuckers and still get some very classic Fender single coil sounds out of it with a pull of the tone control.

I really, really, really liked the versatility of the instrument.

One of the things that surprised me is the one that I played was not a bolt on neck, nor was it a neck-through design. It was an actual one-peice guitar, the neck and body being carved from a single peice. You could see it through the transparent stain on the back. It was not a neck-through design like my PRS. It was a real one-peice.

I have been seriously debating going back and buying it. I probably will tomorrow.

If I do, I'll let you know how it turns out.

I bought one of these from Musicians' Friend. It is a terrific guitar. The neck is definitely glue in, not "neck through: one piece" as some have suggested. If you look closely, you can see the joint.

The Seymour Duncan's are voiced brightly, so either with the coils split, or in HB mode, it is bright as you would expect a tele to be. For a mahogany guitar (body, top is the aforementioned spalted maple), it is quite light.

My only issues with the guitar: a couple of frets were high so the action had been set high in the factory to avoid buzzing. My guitar tech fixed that and now the action is low. I changed the strings to 10's (9's are delivered with the guitar, too light in my estimation). Also, the rosewood fingerboard was over oiled, and until I worked it out, it would come off on my fingers. A week of playing cured that.

The only change I made was to replace the stock tuners with Fender/Schaler locking tuners, like on American Deluxe teles. They are staggered for better tuning stability, but require some drilling. If you get these, have them installed professionally unless you are real comfortable with a drill around a new guitar.

Street price in the US on these is about $770 (MF and GC); with new tuners at $70 and set up/fret dressing at $100, it is still a bargain. You basically get a custom shop guitar from Korea!

It compliments my custom shop 1993 Special Edition set neck Strat (mahogany body, flame maple top, originally Texas Specials, now vintage noiseless pickups).

For those of you who have played one of these, where did you find it? Everything I've read online says that most of the big name music stores don't have them in stock yet. Can't get them online yet either. Looks like mid-February is when they'll be available.

They are really good Teles, I have the Black Cherry Burst model. They are extremely versatile with the coil switch feature for humbucker or single coil goodness.

It has a set neck and a belly cut and no metal strip control plate so deff not your average Telecaster. One thing that can put some folk off is the matching painted headstock but I like it a lot.

I really like the pups that come stock with it and would never change them out

Bridge Pickup: Seymour Duncan® Pearly Gates™
Neck Pickup: Seymour Duncan® '59
Pickup Switching: 3-Position Toggle: Position 1. Bridge Pickup, Position 2. Bridge and Neck Pickups, Position 3. Neck Pickup
Special Electronics: Push/Pull Pot for Coil Tap
Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone (with Push/Pull Coil Select Feature)

You can pick them up for around £300 used in the UK!!!

To the O.P. - The Spalted Maple models are my favourite, they are beautiful
