Unhappy with the ugly saddles on my Tele, I was thinking about getting my wife to ask santa for some posh new ones.

You said some nice things about the Wilkinson compensated ones, and I reckon, they might be a good choice (although I'm too tone deaf to hear if my intonations out!)

But here's my issue, my brass barrels have the little recess where the strings sit, which is nice, as they don't go walkabout. they sit in their groove all secure.

I notice the Wilko ones don't have this grove (string slot if you will).
(I'm aware that original Fender brass saddles also don't have a groove)

So, do the strings move on the saddle when you're having a strum, or is the tension of the string enough to hold them in place?

I've got visions of me constantly fiddling the strings into my desired postion on the saddle! (I'm quite anal!)

Love to hear your view....

I'm not "the Ninja" but I do have a Tele with the old school uncompensated brass saddles. Once they are tuned up my strings don't move about on the saddles. I just have to make sure that they are set in place properly after installation but before tuning.

Thankyou, that's good to hear.

Not an annoyance then?

Nope, but then again I've been with the same woman for 20 years. I'm not easily annoyed.

But seriously, the saddles aren't an annoyance as long as you remember to set the strings before you tune. If you do forget, it's a simple matter to detune and retune again.

I may swith to the Wilkinson compensated ones just because it's an upgrade. I haven't decided yet.

A good stocking filler, I reckon....... along with a FAB chorus, new tubes, picks, strings, a bottle of whisky, and some weed.

Now that would be a nice Xmas!

I have a Tele with the Wilkinson compensated saddles. No issues once tuned to pitch, and the easiest intonation I have done. I think 1 or 2 of the strings are a little off being at the proper intonation, but I imagine its much close that with the traditional 3 barrel saddles...

Ian, they do move if you whack the guitar hard. Under normal play they dont budge though. I strongly recommend getting the saddles from here

http://www.axesrus.com/axeteleh.htm

3/4 of the way down the page, the wilkinson Ganton set. £7.50  I've paid more for a kebab. I ordered mine at 10:30pm they were through the door 2 days after. A personly written email was sent to me within miutes of me paying saying thankyou for the purchase they will be posted tommorow.

I've dealt with these people before, I can confirm Ninja's recommendation.

Good work fellas!

I've bought a few bits from axesrus before and they're good.

You've put my mind at ease, and show the wife what I want!

Thanks for your help!
