I asked myself the same question, MIA or MIM... after a year of intense research and tryout both of them i was still confused. Both are awsome instrument. But i always say, you got what you paid for. So if i pay more i get more (there is always exception hehe)

So i finally decide to go with the MIA one, and i was always going towards it anyway, i loved the bridge and sadles. I now a year after, it's the best choice i made, don't let the price stop you, i didn't really have money to pay 1000$ for a guitar, but i did actually bought it and its worth every penny.

Jeff Healey played a Squier - I think he was a successful, professional musician.

"Healey played Squier" is misleading.

Jeff played a Japanese-made Squier from the mid-80's. At the time he believed that the quality of those guitars was superior to the ones then being made in the US. That guitar had little resemblance to the cheapies made under the Squier brand today.

Also, very little on that guitar was "stock." The neck and body were MIJ Squier. Evereything else, even the frets, was replaced.

For the last decade or so Jeff's main stage guitar was a US made Fender, again heavily modded.

I have always been pretty happy with the MIM Telecaster that I bought in 2004. However, the bridge pickup stopped working one day, I have no idea why yet, and havent had the time to check it out yet.

Yes I did play it, bought it for $200 and the repair guy would shave the frets down for $65, I thought it was a steal for a USA Tele for $265 when it was done the frets were too wide for how tall they were and it felt funny so I had it re-freted with vintage size frets, while it was being re-fretted I got a Baja Tele on a blow-out sale for $499. My bandmate plays my HWY 1 and I use my Baja

Yo Guido, did you play it before you bought it?[/quote]

Hey,
I played quite a few American and Mexi Teles when I decided I wanted to get one. Some played better than others but it seemed as if it was more the specifics of the individual guitar. I ended up trading an Ibanez SZ for a nice MIM std Tele in that Agave Blue.
I must have either got lucky or been blessed because I've never played a guitar this smooth before. It outplays my MIM strat and I can seem to put it down. Makes you feel like you can't miss a note.

The pickups on a friends MIA's are a bit hotter, but the action and feel of my MIM is much better. The dang guitar just stays out of your way and lets you play consistently.

I have a MIM Deluxe Players Strat and a Telecaster with a Bigsby that I have owned since 1970. I really can't compare them. I bought the Strat for recording because the Tele has a bad hum.

There are so many choices today... back when I got the Tele you didn't have to worry about where it was made.

The Strat is pretty good... now. I had to have it setup before I could take it home. I guess I could have kept looking, but I sort of bonded with it. I could have bought anything, really. But, I saw value in the Noiseless Pickups.

I'm always amused with the MIA/MIM debate. People buy what they can afford and the MIM is one more choice. Especially in this crappy economy.

I have a Eric johnson two tone sunburst, and all the low end Fenders I've ever picked up were far inferior to my feel and ear. That being said i have heard guys that could make a guitar out of a cigar box and have mad tone

Martin......

At the end of the day the only poor instrument is one that never gets played. If it feels good and sounds like you intended then it's the right one if not at least for the moment. It wont be the last guitar you play or purchase, or sell for that matter. To quote veetel, "I love all my guitars" too!

Okay fella's here's how I see it.
Wow, talk about elitist comments. Prior to making this a forum about who is a succesful musician we have to assume genre's will not be your next point of contention. In support of of my position I submit the following;
musicians who play for a living successfully and have unlimited income often have their instrument given to them by the manufacturer's (the up sell at work to the public) and those lesser famous sponseree's at ridiculously low discounts.
Otherwise they can afford custom shop units from what ever supplier they choose. If I had that kind of dough I also would purchase the best I thought applicable (which is not always the most expensive unit). Regarding MIA anything as the utmost in professional tools have you considered Joe Satriani, Steve Vai or John Petrucci? I don't mean to turn this into a narrow minded brand issue either. I own several brands made in several countries and do not intend to part with any soon. My next purchase will in fact likely be an MIA Strat but I am not completely sold on the playability yet just the tone. In comparison my MIM Tele plays better than any Strat Deluxe models I have tried so far. Try to open your mind a bit. Each to his own tastes brother. I will apologize now as I just get frosted at the discrimination of instruments.

The MIM guitars are NOT crap, trash or rubbish. :D
The Squier guitars are NOT crap, trash or rubbish. :D
Nor are they as good as the MIA guitars.

 In support of this position I submit the following: Successful professional musicians don't play MIM or Squier guitars. (By successful I mean selling lots of music and making lots of money. You're famous okay) Nor do they play Epiphones or PRS SE's. These successful professionals choose the best tool to practice their craft and that tool is a made in America guitar regardless of the manufacturer.
