I have both an MIM and a MIA Standard...both are great guitars.

Here is my MIM Nashville which is heavily modified.

I agree with the basic message thats being conveyd here, its all in the guitar itself not where it was made. For example, the first time I ever saw a 60's tele (MIM) and played it at my local music shop, I thought to my self "this is the sweetest guitar I've ever played!" Went back in to buy it the next day and it had been sold. So I ordered one on Musicians Friend, and I hated that one. I've played a ton of MIA and MIM fenders and it all depends on the specific guitar IMHO!

At this moment I'd be glad to have either MIM or MIA but if I could choose it would be a ASH MIA Deluxe with binding!! Dream away! :)
I saw a MIK lite ash yesterday I'd like too! 8)

Couldn't agree more I was 6 months before I bought my first MIM Tele and about another 3 before I got my second one. To me I think the reason why MIMs appeal to people is because they can customise it however they please. That was one of the selling points for me.

I recently had one of the new U.S. tele's in my possesion for about 6 months great guitar no doubt(Blizzard Pearl maple board)
I recently bought and '08 mex standard.(White maple board)
I really like the aesthetics of the nitro front satin back of the U.S. but prefer the feel of the mex neck by far.
Of course that is subjective.
Tone from the same amplifier is too close to call.
Ive been playing for thirty years and ive played alot of fenders.
Its also my understanding the pots and switches are the same these days.
For $500 difference I can do without the 'U.S. Fender Mojo Dust' under the pickguard.
But I beleive you still have to take them one instrument at a time.
This is an old debate I own both U.S. and Mex instruments there are good and less good in both lines.
Whatever works for you.
Ive found that the disdain for the Mexican factory is in direct proportion to how much some folks have invested in American Gear.
If you have a Mex that you like or are proud of dont let some elitist steal your joy in playing.
There are always folks around ready to do that.
Ive always found the "Guitars made by Mexicans cant be as good as the ones made by White folks in California" argument that is always right there in this question kind of slimey.
Especially since its been pointed out that many Hispanics work in the Corona factory.
I cant believe its really that much of an issue to musicians of all people.

Another emotive and subjective diatribe...which ignores or at least belittles the real differences between the MIM and MIA guitars.

Hey guys, we know you love your MIMs! But that is not the question at hand...is it?

It's NOT elistist to recognise that a MIA or Custom Shop is a better made guitar than a MIM. It's a FACT : you DO get more when you pay more. :D

in my experiences with the guitars i have found that the mexican and usa telecasters play very much the same. USA strats ten to play better but for telecasters its up to the player to choose. The same parts are used in both kinds, its just that one is assembled in the US and the other isnt. It might be in your best interest to go with the cheaper one, the mexican tele

(laughing)

And I thought Glock owners were some of the worst kool-ade drinkers. (grin) (and I am one!)

Hey, I'm just poking at the hornet's nest here, so y'all can really ignore this post.

My perceived facts:

Overall, _all_ current Fenders are well made guitars.

Usually, most MIA's will get a better resale price than most MIM's

Bell curves now folks.

For subjective sound of MIM's and MIA's, there is a *huge* overlap. Bottom end MIM's are outside overlap compared to MIA's. But they ain't that far out. And top end MIM's are waaaaaay deep into the territory of the MIA's.

Quality of construction, ditto. I've got proven maintenance and electronics chops, and there's a lot of MIM's that are very well made. Again, in that bell curve MIM's overlap way into the MIA's quality bell curve.

Got a MIM Baja Tele right now and it's beyond awesome. I'm really jones'ing for a MIA strat 57 re-issue but I'm still thinking..

I will *never* look down on someone because they have a MIM, or a Squier, or give someone instant 'props because they pull a MIA out of the case.

If you like it, you like it. My opinion means zip. If you let me control your life with my opinion, you might want to take a week off and contemplate.

Now hush, y'all. Go out and play.

I don't think Ajay or any other MIA Tele owner here is looking down on the MIM Tele's, as he said himself, he's posting facts Albeit his opinion, which I happen to agree with. That said, I'm in the market for another Tele. The way things are right now financially, it will probably be a MIM. I have absolutely no problem with that, as I've owned MIM guitars in the past (both Tele & Strat).
Peace :D
