To our suprise the three mexican teles played easier than the americans and even weighed about the same. we decided to go for the mexican mades. whats going on with american mades. lets here what you guys perfer.

my tele's a mexican. I've not played a usa tele recently. I do prefer usa strats to mexican ones though.

I would have to say that would be a matter of how the guitars were set up. There are many nice mexican fenders but when it comes to the materials used the american strat is by far the better intsrument. That said if you buy a mexican fender its made by mexicans in mexico: if you buy an american fender its made by mexicans living in california. Take the tour and thats just the fact of it.

i went a shop the other day and tried a mexican standard and a highway 1 usa and deff preferred the Mexican! i said this to the guy in the shop and he said he wasnt surprised as the american teles can often be very variable in quality, you get some real crackers, but also some real rubbish!

My experience has been that you can find some good MIMs as well as MIA models...it's just a matter of searching and playing them until you find one that follows you home.

It's all in the guitar. The electronics in the US guitars are better though.

Agreed. I sat down on Saturday and played a MIM, Highway 1, and American Deluxe. To me the Deluxe just felt and played better - so I went with that.

I own a MIA Strat , a MIM Tele and recently bought a MIM Strat to give my grandson. I'm in a band and mostly play an A/E Takamine EF341SC and switch to the Tele when it's time to rock. It all depends on the tone you're looking for for a particular song.

I love all my guitars.

I think fender's whole marketing plan regarding instrument manufacture location to price and quality is a thing of wonder and amazement. Have you ever played a really bad fender. I never have. O.k i didnt like the indonesian showmasters much but i wouldnt say the ones i played were bad. Its very true that you pay 90% more money for 10% quality increase.

I go for the American guitars myself. It's just a matter of what makes ME happiest. THE MIM's play fine. But are they the best Fender I can afford? No they are not. So I buy the American made instruments. I may not have much, but what I have is top notch.

(I don't drink cheap beer or cheap whiskey either)

I don't like the frets on the American Std or Deluxe :( , So for an American Tele I would go the the AV series.

I cant see spending over a grand on a guitar, then spend 300 more to re-fret it  . I went through that on my Hwy1 Tele last year.

I have 2 MIM Teles a 94 Std and a 07 Baja. Those are my main gigging Teles. For recording or special occasions I'll use my 89 MIJ Tele :D
