Alright fellow "Tele-ites"

I just changed out the stock pickups on my Tele for a set of Seymour Duncan quarter pounders. The hum I'm getting all of a sudden is pretty outrageous. It is only on the bridge pickup and reduces to 'normal' levels when I touch the control plate so I'm guessing it's just that I didn't solder the ground wire well enough.

I'm going to resolder the connections after work today.
What I'm getting at is, if that doesn't work does anyone have any suggestions?

Copper shielding is an obvious next step and will be pursued.

It's so easy to get 'dry joints' when soldering especially when your resoldering old connection points.

I bet it's that!

are the seymours 4wire pickups? i made the mistake with a dimazio of not covering the 2 joined wires properly, some years ago. It caused terrible hum. took me ages to find the problem even though it was a simple thing.

Nope Ninja they are 2 wire pickups. I unsoldered the ground wire (black) from the tone pot and then resoldered it, thinking that it was a bad connection. It sounds the same BIG HUM. If I roll back the tone control it goes down, but that isn't fixing the problem. I'm thinking of taking it to a shop tomorrow after work.
