Hey, I have an odd idea I have no idea to go about solving...I recently went nuts financially and picked up the hot rod deluxe tele, and I LOVE the sound of the mini humbucker, and I LOVE it's output, but I miss the "sweet" sound I used to get on the single coil on a lite ash tele I used to have...SO, I started brainstorming, and I started wondering if anybody made a mini humbucker you could split the coils on and still be able to get a nice single-coil sweetness...maybe a 5 way switch to add single coil neck and single coil neck/bridge? I'm lost, though...is this crazy? could I get enough output from half a mini to compete with the rest of the guitar? Any help is invited. Thanks!

The pickup would have to made to do that. It can't be done with a standard 2 wire pickup.

I bet you can - you can coil tap a single coil sized humbucker, and if you look on the 72 custom owners club website, you'll see that you can coil tap one of them too.

It's a Seymour Duncan isn't it? Why not go straight to the source - see if there's some wiring tips on his sight?

hmm...thanks for the posts...yeah, even if I knew how to wire I wouldn't take the chances of messing up the stock pickup, so I'm taking both of your advice and calling Seymour Duncan tomorrow and seeiing if anything can be built like that, assuming it won't be more expensive than the guitar  . We'll see, either way, and thank you both for the ideas!

OK, so here's what happened...
I tried to find info on the SD website, no luck...I tried getting my hands on the new 3/4 sized split humbuckers taylor's putting in their new solid bodies, which sound SWEET, but they're not letting the pickups go into other guitars without buying the guitar first. SO, IRONICALLY, I simply called up my local guitar shop, and the guys who've been so helpful were like, "oh yeah, thats easy, lets look at it...". SO, I brought it down and they looked under the hood, and said, "no, this pickup isn't wired for it, so lets order you up one with 4 wires and put in a push-pull pot"...way too easy, and I don't know why I didn't go there in the first place. http://www.dimarzio.com/site/#/pickups/
I've got about 5 days of waiting, and they'll pop it right in there, and we'll see how it goes. If anybody's interested in the results, just ask. Thanks again for the help, everybody...this will be interesting :)
