Hi

i just got this used US Telecaster, i picked it up for a very good price and it is in a nearly mint condition except a chip on the back and it sounds incredible, its all original. I was told it was of 1999 but when i checked the fender serial number scheme it kind of confused me between 1999 and 1990 ??

the serial is N 915570

if it is of 1990, then i can say i got a real nice deal and an incredible bargain for this tele. :P

i'm looking forward to hear from Fender enthusiasts and experts.

thanks in advance

Nice score!

According to the Guitar Dater Project :

Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1990

The issue of whether it was manufactured in 1990 or 1999 should have little effect on the value of the guitar. A 1990 isn't any more "collectable" than a 1999. The really valuable guitars are from the 50's and 60's. Then came the CBS era with its lowering of quality. Then the modern era which showed a new commitment to quality. So it looks like what you have there is an American Stratocaster that is in good playing shape. And you didn't pay the new price for it. Good on you.

*its a Telecaster ;o)

i fully agree with you and everything you are stating is very true, my friend.

I can even add that anything made post 2000 brought commitment to quality even further downhill ... (ie: the "not so cheap" Highway 1 series)

But we can't deny that the 90's was a very good "modern age" period for Fender. I own also an amazing Stratocaster of 1993. They have nothing to compare with today made entry level Strats.

Anyways; i'm very happy with this Telecaster and especially the price i have paid for it.. i wanted a real american telecaster. The tone is amazing, the sustain and vibrance too.

the price i have paid for it was 500 eur (thats about $650 USD) and it is wayy below to the what everything US Made costs here in europe

To me it looks like a standard. Just like mine, but with a rosewood fret board. 500 eur. is a great deal!! I was in Finland last feb-march and I couldn't belive what they were getting for american instruments. And realy 500eur. here in the states wouldn't be a bad deal either. Peace. J.J.B.
