As a self confessed tele dimwit and a obsessive intonater. What are the best compensated saddles out there? do they provide accuracy to a acceptable degree?
Im very obsessive about intonation and currently installing a earvana on my baja and dont want to lose the 3 saddle bridge. Am i fighting a loosing battle?

I like the Glendale Twang set, best I've ever tried. Have had Bardens and like them, just think the Glendales are even better.

1) Don't obsess too much it's a waste of time and energy
2) the compensated saddles are more accurate than the non compensated
3) 6 individual saddles are best, but since you want to keep the vintage bridge you've made the best choice

should i get upright or grand :D

MThorn, my decisions not made yet mate, let alone the purchase. Though it will happen soon, along with a earvana nut. Your advice as always is well received. :)

Wilkinson make some rather discreet brass compenated saddles.
You can get them from axesrus. They look quite good.

With regard to the six saddle tele bridge, I'm always of the opinion that you lose a bit of twang with them - think about it, on a 3 saddle bridge you've got twice the string pressure pinning down each saddle.

If you buy a Baja 50's style Tele, you buy a 50's style guitar. simple.
It will be very cool but will have it's short comings.
The intonation will only be an issue after the 12 fret, and only noticed by cats.

Would you buy an old MG midget, and start putting Suburu rally wheels on it and spoilers etc?

Lets remember what the simple old Tele is all about though, eh?
It's a vintage 'plug it in and bash it out' tool.
Save the perfect intonation for your Ibanez super strat.

Maybe his cats are the ones causing a stir about his intonation...

no its definatley me causing a stir. I hear the proble at various points up and down the neck. Mainly on open chords and barre chords on the 3,7, and 10th frets.

I dont like cats, im a dog man.

Mr Sheridan, your absolutely correct regards tele 6 saddle twang loss and also the whole workhorse ethos of the tele. I think the baja is more akin to the hotrod series of guitars than the vintage replica's mainly because of the s1 switching. The problem is that my stratopartser has a earvana nut and intones perfectly from zero to 21 and all frets inbetween. I know putting a tele 3saddle bridge against that is a unfair comparison, but i want to make it as good as possible and have a earvana ready to fit to it. Fitting the earvana is senseless without atleast half accurate saddle position.

I did indeed look into the wilkinson saddles and will be purchasing some tommorow. I'll let you know how they work out.

sweet midget picture Ziggy. I'm inspired, my daughters pram could soon be getting the whole alloys, flared arches and spoilers treatment. I'll make it look good and approach mothercare for sponsorship too :D

Yeah, I'd be interested to know.

I've got a 72 custom, and I did once swap the skinny steel saddles for some brass ones that came on a really cheap bridge.

I've never been too convinced by their quality, and if I ever upgrade them, I think I'd consider the wilkinsons.

Although, I've never had intonation problems (and I usually play odd delayed open string & high frets spacey stuff) My cats may tell you otherwise!

I got Wilkinson compensated saddles on one of my Teles, and I like them and they seem to intonate fairly close on all strings...Maybe not as dead-on on each string as a six saddle bridge, but closer than a traditional 3-saddle.
