I want one really bad for my strat, and I'd use it since I'd locked down my bridge, I think they look cool.

you kann play with an ashtray bridgecover... but you can't palm-mute
and you mite get problems with feedback

if you don't play for a while it still is a good idea...keeps the bridge cleaner

....and looks good :lol: :wink:

I never understood why they were there. I have always removed and discarded the ashtray covers on Fenders.

I don't ever use em because I think they hide one of the cool parts of the guitar. That said, I just got an Esquire with a Ash Tray and I love the way it looks and feels on that guitar.
