Hi, I am new to this forum and am a beginning guitar player. I recently bought a tele and am trying to figure out exactly what I have.

It has 2 humbucker pickups, no pick guard, one volume, One Tone, one 3 way pick up selecter (I think) and another toggle switch that is broke off so I can't even guess what it is for.

From the serial number (E + 6 digits) I found that it was a Japanese made tele from the mid 80's, but would like to know the specific model and any other information I can get.

Thanks for any input. Let me see if I can post any picks here.

Hi Toecutter!!

Take a look at my Japanese Tele. I can tell from your pic that it has a similar tremolo that I have on mine. From what I've seen, these are unusual guitars. Mine also has an E serial number. I intend to hold on to mine as long as possible! I play it every week!

ToeCutter!

I found out this week from a friend who collects and trades guitars that the the number following the "E" in the serial number is the model year. Mine is an E5, making it a 1985.

Also, if you're interested in replacing the broken switch, let me know, I can put you onto some electronics retailers who probably have a replacement switch. Before you do anything else, see how many terminals are on the switch and mark where each one goes by marking the wires or making a list. Let me know how it's hooked up or take a closeup pic of it with the rear control cover off. If you can get a manufacturer name and model of the switch, (usually stamped or printed on it) then I can try to find an exact or equivalent replacement.

Good Luck!
