I have an MIM Thinline that I got from a large scale EBay seller for $560, but you can get them at most on line mainstream stores for $700. The quality is good+, excellent playability and of course not quite the stock Tele sound on the '72 reissue model.

Stock MIM Teles can be found for around $500 new and most people who've posted in recent times say the quality is decent.

I have a (sunburst) Highway 1 I paid about $700 for (circa 2005, so not the current redesign) and the quality on that is great. They're running around $750 today.

Besides EBay, there's also Craigslist if you have one for your area. The great thing there is that (with most sellers), you get to drop by and try what you're buying. For a non-vintage/non-custom used Tele, you might be able to get away with $350 or even less if you look around.

In short, any of the MIM or Highway 1 models are well worth your consideration and all nicely under $1,000.

I'm getting a Tele that's made in Mexico (MIM) very soon. The person who posted above me stated that they are sold around $500. That is somewhat true but most new Telecasters MIM are sold for either $400 or $430. The extra $30 goes toward a beautiful sunburst finish. This, of course, is optional. Most people want to replace the pickups because the stock pickups don't have the high quality sound that American pickups have, although they are certainly better than the Squire pickups you have now! So shop around and do some research to find the right deal for the right Tele.

I recommend a Squier Standard Telecaster because once properly set up, they are very comparable to MIM Fender Telecasters, or at least my Squier Standard Teles are....

Since price is an issue I suggest either the MIM Tele's or the US made Highway 1 series

Dude, I own a standard Tele (MIM Tele) and it is one of the sweetest guitars i have ever heard. I bought it off of musiciansfriend.com for $400 and it completely blows my other guitarist's Ibanez RG out of the water, and he payed $200 more for his!! I also own a Dean and a Yamaha and play in 2 bands but i can never bring myself to use anything but my Telecaster. it is the most versitle and best guitars i've ever heard.

I have a MIM (Made in Mexico) Standard Telcecaster (Fender, obviously). Don't worry, it's about 400, but it doesn't sound or feel near it.

My friend, Jeff (who just got a G. Robot Les Paul!!), said it felt a lot like his Squire Strat. Maybe you'll think the same.

Hi:

You didn't say what your budget is :?: If it is $200-400 There are 2 options... Either the Squier Std or a New or used MIM.
I have a 89 Squier and a newer Squier 51...I'm impressed with the new Squier Stuff.... I also have an older MIM Tele I got new in 1994...Great guitar too.
On the MIM the lead pickup has more midrange NOT the classic Tele sound.
I judge a Tele lead pickup by comparing the sound on it to my old Ricky Nelson Records for that James Burton sound...Many guys change them out such as I did....But I knew that when I tried that guitar.

If your budget is higher than $500.00 Get The Baja Tele. Classic Tele looks and TONE.

A lot of guys here love the HWY 1. IMO be careful on that one. I bought a 2004 model really Cheap 200.00 had to get the frets shaved and re-dressed, still didn't like it so I had it re-fretted.. $585.00 into it now
