Thanks M/M , I allready took the plunge and have some 08 alnico 3 pups, pots and switch coming.

They came out of a 2008 American Standard ????

Snowy, I was allready married to the ex and out of school by then.

1985 seems like minutes away and not 23 years ago.

from what I read an "A" with six digits makes can also make it present day if it is Crafted in japan.

I sure hope the sound is not too modern with these pups, but the vintage stuff is too thin.

I can allways play with tone caps if I need to.

I know I'm going to get sneered at here, but since I was asked.

I found this sweet guitar at a pawn shop with the active emg's for under four hundred bucks.

and the color is indeed sweet !!!!

I am going crazy walking by the stand and seeing it there naked as can be, no guard, bridge or pickups, The bridge pup showed up today, hopefully the neck pup and the rest of the U.S.A. upgraded electronics will show up in the morning.

If you watch and wait you will be suprised at what you can find in a pawn shop or an auction, but now I am giving away all my secrets to finding cool gear for low $$$$ so I'll stop now!!!

The bridge pup showed up and is installed as much as it can be untill the pots and swutch get here.

I just have this feeling that this is going to be one of those guitars we dream of when its done.

my only aprehension is the use of a slightly hotter pickup.

I will most likely wonder what it would sound like with a more vintage pup when I'm done.

The plot thickens with every turn of yet another screw.

Update:

I installed the 08 american standard pups and electronics (delta tone) with the detent setting.

there was no shielding of any kind on the Tele and man does it make some noise.

not as bad on low gain clean settings.

the pups seem very hot compared to vintage models.

the neck pup seems hotter but is closer to the strings by far.

Well here she is.

I am on the hunt for new electronics to put it back where it belongs !!!

The active emg's would be great for metal, just not my thing.
