Hi All,
I've played a few Telecasters at GC and have not found one with a modern slim, fast neck...can anyone point me in the right direction?

How much are you willing to spend? My Hwy 1 has a 1 11/16" nut or 1.6875" nut. I feel it's pretty slim and fast. You could always rub the web of your hand with a little talcom powder, that should speed you up. I know there are also some Teles out there that have a 1 5/8" or 1.6225" nut. I just don't remember which one it is. Might be the Standard Tele.

I can spend up $1000 or so...I'm so used to the slim-tapered, 60's neck on my Gibson Les Paul Standard...so the Highway Ones have the skinniest necks? I've even noticed how some Strats have slimmer necks than the Teles...

No, the Hwy 1 doesn't have the slimmest neck, they are 1.6875, there are other models with 1.625. I just can't remember which ones they are. My suggestion is to just look through the spec sheets for each model on the products list and then you'll know the model with the smallest neck.

TeleLover41...when you say,"they are 1.6875...", you are referring to the thickness or the nut width? I'm interested in the overall thickness of the neck...or do they go hand in hand...

The width at the nut. Also, I've been looking, the Standard Tele is 1.650 at the nut. That is smaller than the Hwy 1. Keep in mind the radius on the majority of Tele necks is 9.5". I believe there are some that are 12" radius, and some that are 7.5" but I have been looking at a lot of guitars, so don't quote me on that.

Sorry, I didn't answer your question, the width and the radius correspond for thickness. I believe the larger the radius, the wider the nut, but the slimmer thickness of the neck. You probably need an actual guitar tech to explain this. This only my impression.

The Spalted Maple Tele has the slimmest neck I've experienced, by a long, long way. But it's the least Tele like Tele I own, very nice guitar though. Here's a link:

My 2000 MIA Power Deluxe Telecaster has neck that is slimmer than any other guitar I own. The slimmest one I have is a '93 PRS Custom with the wide thin neck.
