I recieved a Fender Tele Slimline as a gift. She was made in Mexico, but has great action, great sound and harmonics, but my buddies boo because she is from Mexico. How do I respond to their snobby comments?

Just turn the amp up louder so you can't hear them... 8)

Seriously though,

Where do the guitars that these people play come from? Just wondering, because after playing for more than 20years, unless they have some sort of political reasons for not liking Mexico I don't see any reason for criticizing someone with a guitar made in Mexico, because to me, it doesn't matter where the instrument comes from as long as you know how to play it. Most people who criticize other peoples instruments usually cannot play their own instruments adequately. They are either jealous of your guitar or playing or both. Either that or they may have issues with race or something...

Well do YOU like it? Do you find buddies comments more important than your own feeling and experience? Are they guitar wise? You already had good comments like, ignore them and play the hell out of it. I own a Mexican Sratocaster and I love it. When people question me about my guitar I tell them that I own a Strat or a Statocaster. To me it is not relevant to say where it was made, this information goes with the technical stuff like wich pups are in it, or the serial number. I could buy an American Deluxe that was assembled in the USA (a few miles apart from the Mexican factory) by a Mexican Fender employee! I presume that all Fender guitar builders are skilled workers wherever they come from, all Fender guitars are good instruments and that a company like Fender would'nt put his name on a piece of junk. Find a sweet axe, try it, love it, buy it. Having said that I must add, be proud, enjoy your guitar, let buddies be buddies, don't let people spoil your fun.

Cheers.

Man just dig your guitar and play the heck out of it. I've heard guys absolutely shred on crappy pawnshop guitars and I've heard knuckleheads with more money than sense stumble around the fretboard of a custom guitar. It's in your heart and in your fingers bro. For the record, I'm an American Fender guy; but I have found that the fit and finish of the Mexican instruments is excellent and rivals if not matches that found on the American made instruments.

There is however a difference in the electronics. Can the average player hear these differences and is it THAT big a deal? That question is open to debate and depends alot on the style of music you are playing, what amp you're using, and how many stomp boxes you are running through. If you are running straight into a good amp, and playing clean I say yes there can be a noticable difference in tone and harmonic response between US and MIM instruments. If you are running through a bunch of effects, I don't think you or anyone elses will notice much difference.

In closing, the Corona Plant is the Fender flagship so they will ensure that the best stuff comes out of there. Even if it's only "just a little better" the difference is there or why would they bother. just like the Custom Shop guitars are better than the regular American guitars. Are the Mexican guitars inferior NO they aren't, are they different YES.

The MIM's are made out of American parts right??....tell your buddies to go suck eggs.
They are probably just jealous. I love my MIM's.
And I love my MIA's. If they are that snobby than they must have "the best guitars in the world"...lol
As long as you dig it and it sounds like you want it that is really all that matters. :D

There was a quote attributed to Leo Fender, but I don't know if he actually said this. When asked about the difference between Mexican Fenders and American Fenders his response was "Mexican Fenders are made in Mexico by Mexicans and American Fenders are made in America by Mexicans".

I always thought it was funny. And it's not a bad comeback for your buddies.

If mim guitars are so bad why do they sell so well. My last band Apocalypse baby's has 7 cds out all recorded since 96, all with my mim strat on em. My mim went round the world with me. I currently own 1 usa strat 1 mim strat and 1 mim tele. The usa gets played the least, ok not because its a inferior guitar to the mim's but because i paid through the nose for it. Check out seasick steve on youtube, see what he plays and listen to how it sounds. It looks like a pos and sounds like the guitar of the arch angel Gabriel. He only paid $75 for it and says he was ripped off.

I'd just play the heck out of it and not worry about what "they" think. Who cares ... life's full of people who have so little on the ball themselves that they have plenty of time to criticize others.

It's never cool to knock anyone's gear - or their ability for that matter. The only thing that counts in my book is attitude. Clearly these clowns are total losers, and they only have anything to say because they feel the need to compensate for their insecurity. Personally I would just patronize someone like that and laugh. It's their problem, not yours.
