Last week I picked up a standard MIM Tele. I've been playing for about a year and probably should have gotten a Tele to begin with but had to do some learning first. I like this guitar but am pretty sure that it will end up being my long term instrument. I can still exchange it for a higher model but can't decide which way to go.
Any suggestions? I primarily play blues and blues-rock.
Favorite Tele player was Roy Buchanan - I got to see him in Pittsburgh before he became famous. Or should have become famous.

Thanks

Hello Nutmeg.Clove,

I've had my mexico telecaster
for over a decade.
I has never let me down, but alas,
I always wanted a different one.
Go play others, maybe a higher
end model is in store for you.

Cheers.

Just change the pickups out and you'll fall in love with it forever. The Mexican Standard are amazing guitars. Or you could buy the Mexican Nashville Tele if you want more tonal options (it has a Strat pup in the middle and you can also get one with a piezo as well).

I had a MIM Custom 72 up until a few weeks ago, I traded her up for my deluxe. I loved the 72, and miss her. I was actually tempted to go buy her back, a fantastic guitar. Mind you.... the deluxe aint too shabby

I'd suggest keeping the guitar and playing it for several months on a regular basis. After that time, you might have heard or felt some things that you'd like to change (pickups, neck, tuners,..), so at that point you can choose to modify, have it modified, or trade for another model.

The point that I'm trying to make is to not get ahead of yourself. You might end up really liking the guitar as it is or with a few small changes?

Good luck with it!

Thnsk for the responses. I'll either stick with it or get the MIM Ash Satandard at GC as it is what I first tried and is prettier. As I recall there was a slightly different sound but that could be my failing memory.

Man in my opinion the Highway 1 Telecasters give you the most "bang for the buck" if price is an issue.

No they aren't as pretty as the MIM's but they sound and feel sooo much better. Plus you have the added incentive of an instrument that holds it's value.

I'm actually a Strat guy, but I also own an '04 Hwy 1 Texas Telecaster and I think it's a great guitar.
