I have had this MIM Baja Tele for about a year. Her name is Nellie. I love this axe. But the single ply pickguard is warped, on the upper bout of the guitar. I think there is going to be a lot of dust cooties collecting in there if I don't do something. I would think this is why less vintage Teles have a 3-ply pickguards. This guitars finish is the more rare Blonde Baja, with a black pickguard.

It doesn't change the sound of the guitar, but it is annoying. Oh BTW, I bought a case in the first 3 months after purchasing the guitar, as I hate gig bags. And on the day I bought the guitar, I took my 1971 Stratocaster out of its case and gave Nellie a temporary home; the Strat was placed in the gig bag.

Other than replacing the pickguard, which I am loathe to do 'cause it may damage the vintage vibe, what would you guys recommend?? :?:

This is just the way it goes with thin single ply 50's style pick guards. (this style has less screws, to add insult to injury!)
I had it with my old squier tele (Eventually I replaced it with a 3 ply 60's style scratch plate and put the extra screws in)

I have the same problem with my 50's strat - but I don't want to go drilling the extra hole!!!

I see @ Axes r us you can buy a 3 ply 8 hole strat pick guard. maybe they do a Tele one.......

I agree, it's the nature of the best, so to speak. Replace the guard and stop worrying...

I just bought a baja (or is it badger). After setting the neck relief i put the pickguard back on and noticed it was bulging around the bottom horn. I loosened all the screws down from the strings and pushed the guard flat whilst tightening the screws. It worked for me, no problem now.

Hi:

I've seen guys use a special double sided tape to hold the pickguard too

After removing the guard on mine I found the way you put the guard back on heps alot too. I put it in place then put the screws in, in this order.

1, bottom of the control plate.
2, top of the control plate.
3, tip of the bottom horn.
4, top of the bridge.
5, top of the neck.

I get all kinds of weird bulges if i vary from that order, but dont if i follow it. I found screws 3&4 can be swapped in order too.
