Hi Thomas,
Yes I'd say a standard TELE would be perfect for alternative rock. I hope you enjoy it!

Some great bands that use Telecasters in that realm of music would also be 7 Mary 3, remember them hehe.

But yes you should find the tones you are after in a tele for alt. rock.

Jimmy Eat World has a Signature Tele for Jim Adkins, and thats pretty alternative. In addition to the Joe Strummer; I know the Clash is punk, but I also know the Tele is usually contributed to country. Also, Prince plays a tele, and thats about as screwy a music genre as ever. Clapton started with one, so theres some blues/rock. A tele can do anything!

Also, I've seen Toad the Wet Sprocket play with a tele and the Spin Doctors.

C'mon....The Pixies, Radiohead, Blur.....sLIPkNOT....
I could go on.
I play Deftones w/ my MIM Tele.
You can play anything with anything. That's my belief.

Tele's are extremely versatile. I think it has something to do with the primitive design. It's not too specialized so you can get all sorts of sounds out of it. I think it'll do for just about any style of music you want to play

I am getting a thinline soon and was lucky enough to have a long go of one the other day.
It was extremely versatile. I sat and played all the mayer i knew before moving on to hendrix, ratm, muse and some radiohead.
In my opinion (and some of the store workers) it sounded great for each.

agreed a tele can do anything! I myself am a fan of jazz on a tele. Robben Ford is known to weild a telecaster from time to time, and boy does he make it sing the blues w/ jazz licks thrown in for good measure.

let us know how your tele works out for your alt. rock!
