So, I bought a Fender Telecaster American Standard yesterday. I love it already. I have played guitar for about ten years, but all acoustics. This is my first electric. Any advice for a guitar god wannabe? HA!

Practice, practice, practice.

Learn to play chord progressions and modulate into all keys. Get familiar with the circle of fifths, scales and techniques. Good luck!

Yep, good luck, and take care of her and she'll last a long time.

Get a subscription to Guitary Player and/or Guitar World magazines (or others) and learn and digest all the lessons and techniques that are even remotely associated with the type of playing you like to do. Have fun and learn the techniques in the different keys that you like to play in, then play these learned techniques as is, or modified, as solos or portions of solos, to your favorite songs. I highly recomend getting some form of recording device. You can record your own backing tracks and then practice your solos endlessly until the neighbors call the cops. Pretty soon you'll have a whole library of cool stuff to play for your friends and the police! :D

Hello JCSchrader,

Welcome to the forum.
Don't keep us in suspense.
What color did you get?

Practice makes perfect,
start slow and clean,
speed will come.

Cheers.

nice buy!! You already play guitar, but you have probably noticed that electrics are another story. They have a different playability. Easier on the fingers, louder, bends are easy. If you play good on acoustic, you will play good on electric. Rock on!!

Advice for someone with a first electric....hmm...technically, I guess remember from acoustic to electric, "less is more" applies. Its easy to be a one-man band on an acoustic, but you'll only have about half of the rythmic tricks on electric you did on acoustic, and the sustain took me some time to get used to. Thats the problems I had when switching, at least...
But the most IMPORTANT advice I could give would be ELECTRIC GUITARS, AMPS AND EFFECTS ARE THE MUSICIAN'S VERSION OF CRACK! BE CAREFUL OR YOU WILL HAVE 20 ELECTRICS IN TWO YEARS! mmm...guitar candy...
