The pots are stamped '75 so i'm guessing it's a '76 tele custom with the ash tray. I'm usually careful to wipe it off after i play, but i guess i forgot a few times and now there is a nasty gritty/film sweat stains on it. It's mostly where my right arm lays on it. I tried to wipe it off with an old tshirt, but it just smudged it and moves it around. I'm afraid if i rub too hard, it will scratch the finish. Some of the finish is lighter like drink rings on an old table. I'm sure these are water stains. It is not so bad though. It is a solid crap/brown color. There is no wood grain showing through, and there are some paint chips where the output jack is.

My question is, what kind of paint or stain is on it, and what liquid or cleaner can i safely use to clean and treat the body.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is my first post.

Here's a pic :-)
