and for all you guys fussing over the "which tele should I buy" threads, UMMMM, well this is the Tele area of this forum, what exactly would you like new converts to talk about ????

Hey I have asked for opinions on certain guitars and I've been around the guitar business since around 1979.

Momma says if you aint got nothin' nice to say, shut up !!!!!

I'm thinking about getting a MIM Tele and making a Keef Richards guitar out of it, so what do ya think ???

Except I was thinking about using a Pearly gates in the neck, again what do ya think ?

I'll most likely upgrade the pots and switch too, maybe the bridge at some point ?

I do this to myself all the time with guitars. BIG GAS ATTACK!!!!!

I've been trying to snatch one off the bay for a few weeks and can not believe how people bid near new prices on used MIM Teles.

I'll get one in time!!!!

Or I'll get tired and go buy a new one.

but then will I have the heart to mod a new guitar?????

I want to do a whole makeover on one and yes I want to age it too.

as he ducks for cover.

Hey if I could afford a real vintage Tele, I would get one, but my last kid just became a teenager and its a few years till the nest is empty.

The Classic 50's tele is a great value in the traditional Tele.

If your going to really play the thing just spend the money and buy a new American Deluxe (I have and prefer the Butterscotch). You'll look like Keef, have all the guitar you may ever want or need, it'll sound great as-is, right out of its brand new case, and probably last forever. People sell lots of junk on ebay. Strange things can go wrong with guitars that are not properly taken care of. Not to say that their aren't some deals out there, but dude, it's a guitar. I'd look at craigslist before ebay, if your going to go used.

Well I did it!!

I went to my local Fender dealer and was just shooting the breeze with the fellas and they showed me a near new MIM Tele with the plastic still on the guard and the little 60th ann. badge on the back.

I will just say I bought it for less than you can get one on the bay for ( I buy a few Fenders from them).

All you guys kicking dirt at the MIM Teles should really play one, cause dude this guitar is sweet!!!!!

I am finding it perfect for classic rock tones with my Blues Deville and the Cyber Twin using thoustons CT settings.

The neck is perfect, the only kinda deal with it is the weight compared to my Strats, this dude is heavy! and my forearm is used to the roundness of the Strats too.

as far as tone, real sweet, clean and with a bit of fuzz from my route 66 overdrive.

With the Tele it's pretty easy to do and just as easy to put back as new.
Myself I would fab up a new control plate with a 500k volume pot., keeping the old one intact. I would get a new pick guard made fo a humbucker and wire her up. If you don't like it it's nothing to put back.
Peace. J.J.B.

This is exactly what I'm planning on doing. Problem is (as I said in another thread) that MIM natural finish are impossible to get over here in UK. I'm off to the US next week though, so I'm hoping to be able to pick up the Guitar Center FSR.
Or I could bite the bullet grab a MIJ "Micawber" off of ebay right now for around $800, but the grain doesn't grab me.
Decisions...

Ya this three color burst is not getting it for me either, what I'm afraid of is that it might be a laminate top and back.

if its solid wood, it is awefull nice for a MIM.

guess I wont know till I strip it ?

any way, hopefully it will end up a respectable tribute to the Stones some day.

it really does sound great as is !!!
