...do new Tele's come with? I just got a American Deluxe and I am wondering if it's has 9's or 10's on it so I know what guage to order in the future based on whether I decide the strings it has now are too light or just right? (I suspect they are 9's but my only other guitar is an acoustic and I am only familar with those heavier guages)

Thanx

Thanks! Do you find the 10's stay in tune better or not?

I find that if any guitar has a proper setup there will be no tuning issues and the guitar should stay in tune.

All my fenders came with 9-42s. They are still replaced with 9's except my Tele. The tele is a semi-hollowbody, and I like the deep rich tone it puts out, so for that guitar, I changed over to 10s.

Welcome to the Forum!!

Just so you know, if it's a new guitar, you can check the specs, including string gauges, by clicking on the "Products" link above, finding your guitar, and clicking on the "Specs" button.

Remember that if you change your string gauges that you will have to have the intonation reset by a tech, unless you know how to to do it yourself. otherwise you will have tuning issues. What amp are you using? I just bought and American Deluxe Tele also, but mine doesn't arrive until Monday.. I'm chompin' at the bit.. lol

Great, I just ordered 5 different brands of .10's

My amp hasn't arrived yet but will in a couple days. I ordered a Super Champ but then they back-ordered it and it was going to take a month so I changed the order to a Vibro Champ. Probably still more amp than I need as I do not plan to play out. I am mainly a songwriter and wanted the Tele cause it's easier on the fingers than my acoustic and I can get some effects.

William, I just called my local guitar shop repair guy and he's not convinced there will be a problem with the guage change so maybe I'll just let him change the strings when the originals get old and he can adjust it if necessary right then.

What color did you order? That was the hardest decision for me cause they all look good but I settled on the olympic pearl which is just white with the brown pearly pick guard. It's kind of a conservative look but I like it.

I am also chompin' at the bit because my amp hasn't arrived yet. But I'll tell you the guitar looks and feels awesome.

Mine came from the factory with 9-42s, but mine's a Stratocaster and when I got it I took the 9s off and immediately put .008s on then I went to the shop and had a set up done on it for .008s because usually when you change your gauges you usually have to reset the intonation and have it set up again.

I ordered the sunburst with the maple neck. I saw on UPS.com that my guitar will arrive today instead of Monday.. Yeah!.. I'll take some pics of it when it arrives today and them post them at a later date. I'm also going to record it in my home studio also and maybe I'll be able to post the sound clips as well. Once you put .10's on it and you don't change the gauge of the strings, you wont' need to reset the intonation again. I usually have a complete set up done on my guitars about once every six months, but I gig out a lot so my guitars get put through the ringer. As a general rule, I'd have a tech set up a guitar once per year.

I picked the Vibro Champ XD over the SCXD because I didn't need 15w in my condo. I don't gig anymore and I don't need the neighbors complaining, either. I'm having a lot of fun with mine . . . when I'm not posting on forums. I think you'll really enjoy it. Congrats, again.

I just got a Baja tele (wow it's great). The strings feel quite light and I thought they might be 9s, but the website claims that Baja's are fitted with 'Fender Super 250R, Nickel Plated Steel,
Gauges: (.010, .013, .017, .026, .036, .046),
p/n 073-0250-006 '

is this correct on UK distributed guitars - 'cos I like the feel and sound of these strings

thanks

I stay with the 9-42s that came on my Tele's.

The only guitars I believe that are shipped from the factory with .010s are the Jaguar & Jazzmaster, because in those days if you research on the net those 2 particular models were never intended to be used with the lighter gauge .008s or .009s anyway at the time. Not sure if these 2 models would even play well with any gauge below a .010.
