The mahogany body/neck is what's special about this. I love warm mahogany tones on humbucker guitars and with how much wood a Telecaster has on it, it'd be perfection.

Plus, I don't particularly like the pickups on the Deluxe, and they're difficult to replace because they're the oversized fender variety.

hmmm... i'd have to say a tele with a vintage noiseless in the neck pickup, and an alnico v bridge pickup. Grover Tuners with 9 gauge, top light strings (.009-.011-.015-.025-.032-.038), medium jimbo frets, bone nut, rib contour, strat stlye trem-bridge.

Choice of blonde w/black pickguard, black w/white pickguard, sunburst w/white pickguard.

How's about anything mid-priced in BUTTERSCOTCH BLONDE? I know, I know, its too much a classic to give up the profits, but I'd imagine if they did, say, a limited run of Highway 1's, it wouldn't do too poorly. And crazy idea: perhaps the 50's re-issue MIM should be re-issued in its most loved color? I know, looks aren't that important bla bla bla...what can I say, I'm shallow, a budget tinkerer, don't want a squire, and don't want to spend over a thousand dollars if I'm probably going to want to switch the pups, anyway...I suspect I'm not alone on this

That's actually a great idea for a Tele. Just hope they would go for medium jumbo frets - no vintage frets BS.

I wonder - the Seymour Duncan forum helped in a few designs, notably the Custom 5 humbucker... is there a chance this forum could help create a new guitar model for Fender? we are all fans and customers...

Maybe a MIM Tele with Humbuckers with pup rings and 500k pots, no pickguard, a mahogany body and flamed maple top, five-way a sychronized tremolo, and a trans-black paint job.
Like Glenn Pearce's Tom Anderson Cobra on the Michael W. Smith's "20 Years" DVD.
Heaven

WOW....great ideas...maybe there should be a "fan series" run of guitars? Maybe they could get the ideas from these forums and then we all vote on them...they could run, say, the six most popular? Two teles two strats a p bass and a j bass? Hey, folks, just remember who said the idea first when it comes time to vote on our teles ;)

Once again, I still think there should be a mini-Tele for the children that like Telecasters and want that sound. I can't believe I'm the only one that thinks this is a good idea.

you're NOT the only one who likes that idea. I've never really thought about it, but I'm kinda surprised it hasn't happened in the past...maybe your student could consider some tele pups, if nothing else?

I considered that, but I'm not sure that the current rout job on the mini-Strat would allow for installation of full size Telecaster pickups. Maybe I should look at that a little closer. That seems to be the only way she is going to get Tele sound.

Tele pickups are normally smaller than Strat pickups anyway.

well, that is true. I'll have to take them out of my Hwy 1 and see if they fit in her mini-Strat and if they do I'll buy myself some vintage pickups.
