I just purchased an American Deluxe Tele and I already have a Hot Rod Deluxe amp. Anyone here have the same equipment and some suggestions as to eq settings and drive settings? I play country, blues, southern and classic rock. I also have a Strat, that's why I figured I'd ask about settings because I'll probably need to adjust the eq when I play the tele.

I got an American Deluxe Tele today  I'm going back in next week for a Fender amp. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Blues Junior, I don't gig thus the smaller type amp. I'm going to watch this thread though, just in casme I change my mind... AGAIN

The blues junior is certainly a good amp. I like the versatility of the hot rod deluxe. It has enough distortion to perform classic rock, but also clean up enough for jazz, blues, and new country. The other guitar player in my band has the blues deville with 4 10's. That is a sweet sounding amp as well.

Hi Will,
I just got back from guitarguitar, I went for the Blues Junior. I don't gig, it's only for playing in the house. I felt the others were just a bit too big, I'm now going to read the instructions, and plug her in :D

Thanks slacker. I purchased mine (American Deluxe Tele). The scheduled arrival date is 9/8/08. What kind of music do you play? What eq settings do you use and where do you set your drive knob to? I ask because it will probably give me a good point to start from, then tweak it to my personal taste. This is my first Tele and I am stoked about having one. I play almost exclusively new and classic country, with blues and classic rock in the mixture. Now if I can only save enough money to buy a Dr. Z or Bad Cat amp.. :-). Just bought a new instrument and have GAS again already.. lol

been playing mostly classic rock and blues with some originals. as for amp settings, I have everything set in the middle, neutral if you prefer. it's a good point to start from as I'd like to hear what the guitar can do with the volume and tone knobs and pup selector. good luck! :D :D

Nice. I will be receiving mine today. I just checked the tracking on UPS.com and it says that it is OUT FOR DELIVERY.. Now I'm really stoked. I'll let you know how it sounds and I'll probably take some pics and post them as well. I'll even record some sound clips as well in my home studio. Good advice, I think I will start with everything set at 12 o'clock.

My Tele arrived today. All I can say is WOW! The difference between the finsh on my MIM Strat and this MIA Deluxe Tele are like night and day. The finish is impeccable and the tone is to die for. This is my first 1300 dollar guitar and I will never buy the junk ones again. It's all american made from here on out. The thing sustains for days even the fretted notes hold almost triple the length of time that my Strat does. I officially belong to the Tele die hard club. Mixed with the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, it is an awful sonic weapon. ;-)

I just bought a 2008 American Deluxe Telecaster and am playing through a Hot Rod Deluxe amp. I also have a 2008 American Standard Strat. The two guitars are totally different animals through any amp.

I bought a used HRD and it needed some service, biasing, etc. This improved tone and reliability (first thing's first). To start, try turning the amp up louder and the guitar down. Use the guitar's volume and tone controls to perfect your sound. This does wonders with the strat, and is the reason why guitars have knobs.

For the Hot Rod Deluxe, turn the treble all the way up, back off the bass to about 5 to 7 and the mid to 4-6. Minimal reverb, low presence. Put the tele on the bridge pickup (or you can keep the switch in the middle with the s-1 down). This will give you a twangy country sound. For best results, use the clean channel, bright. I also use a compressor and delay to get a country sound.

You can also experiment with the amp's drive channels for rock and blues sounds. If you are not using a lot of effects, you can accomplish a lot by playing around. It takes time, and can get muddy if you add too many pedals. If you do use pedals and the drive channels, try the effects loop on the amp to get better tone. This amp can sound great if you spend the time to get the right settings. The More Drive channel can be controlled and used effectively by turning down the volume on the guitar.

AThanks I appreciate the help. I spent a good 3 hours tinkering with eq settings. I ended up turning the reverb down almost all the way, the presence almost all the way. One thing I noticed surprisingly that the pickups on my new Tele are not as hot as the ones on my mim strat, but that , in my opinion, is better because it let's me push the amp a little harder when I gig and sweetens up the tone immensely. With the S-1 down, it's almost like a volume boost pedal. I only use one pedal, sometimes 2. A Crybaby wah, and a Keely Blues Driver pedal. I am stunned at the great tone. I am not even using the bright channel and using the middle position primarily for my tone, every once in a while switching to neck or bridge pickup only for a little variety in tone. My amp settings are Bass: 5, Middle: 7, Treble: 6 1/2, Presence: 2, Reverb: 2. I like a little more low end for my tone. Thanks again.
